Holy crap, guys. I saw forty-one 2011 movie releases, or at least I remembered to tag my LJ entries about forty-one of them. Oh, and forty-two if you count seeing HP twice. Anyway, that is a lot of time spent, and well spent, since I generally go to the ones I have a reasonable chance of liking. Aside from a few turkeys (*cough* Rango *cough*), I had lots of positive things to say about most of them.
So, on the eve of Oscar nominations being released, my top 10 of 2011, in alphabetical order:
Another Earth
The Artist
Attack the Block
Bridesmaids
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2
Hugo
Martha Marcy May Marlene
Midnight in Paris
The Muppets
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
Honorable mentions go to: Drive, Beginners, A Dangerous Method, and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. And X-Men. 50/50. And possibly Source Code. Oops?
This is, of course, a list of my own favorites; they're the ones I most enjoyed and want to remember from this cinematic year. At the time, I didn't think 2011 was a particularly strong year in film, but on reflection, it comes out better. Still not amazing -- I had reservations about most movies on this list -- but it was a long list and there were tough calls.
Tune in tomorrow, when I rant and rail against the more widely publicized nominations list. :-D
