JOHNNY WEIR RULES OK

Today I went to QFest to see the documentary Pop Star on Ice. It's about my favorite figure skater - the man in my icon - the fabulous Johnny Weir.

The movie was great - the production values were very good and it was consistently entertaining. Definitely worth a view. I've been waiting to see it for months and I'm glad it finally came to Philly. I was going to see the Friday night show, but Johnny said on Twitter that he was coming to the Saturday show with his friend Paris.

You know I had to be there for that.

So I made my way over to the Ritz East, feeling positively giddy. He's smaller than you think in person - not just height, but weight too. He was wearing a translucent tank top, a sparkly jacket, black shorts, and these gunmetal pointed shoes.

After the show, there was a Q&A session, then he posed for pictures and signed autographs in the lobby. I didn't think he would be so approachable and, like the dummy that I am sometimes, I didn't bring my program or a camera. (Cell phone cameras aren't always reliable indoors.) But I did get to tell him that I started actively following figure skating because of him, and I got to ask him who made his jacket. "A p.r. person from Topshop gave it to me." He also showed me his watches ("Chanel") and his shoes ("I got them from Russia!"). I said that I felt dumb because I didn't bring anything to sign. He said (nodding sagely), "That's okay. We know." He thanked me for coming to the show and hugged me twice.

I did meet him again at the little after party. This time, I had my program and a pen and he graciously signed it for me. He even added the word "PROOF". :D I talked to him about U.S. tours and mentioned that I got to see him in Champions On Ice. He said that the Champions On Ice tour had gone bankrupt and that he was trying to do more tours in the U.S.

I also got to talk with some of the staff and volunteers, who were awesome as always.

So I have filled one of my goals in life. (Not like getting a master's or anything, but still! A goal fulfilled!)
