I don’t talk about this much, but I am a member of an oppressed minority.
I am female, and even though we make up more than half of the country I live in, we are barely represented in most things of importance. Unless you count poverty and rape as vital experiences every human should have.
Come to think of it, I’m a lesbian, and being a lesbian totally sucks. Heteronormativity is everywhere, It’s very difficult to find a cake topper - and to get hers and hers towels, you have to go in on two sets with a couple of gay men. It’s like the new Civil Rights Movement, but without the lynchings, firehoses and murdered children. Still, I feel like the experience of it is fundamentally the same....
