Women's Work: Birth Announcement!

Sep 07, 2007 15:12

So, it's been brewing for awhile and it has been SO HARD to resist keeping y'all updated with every twist and turn of the newest endeavor.

But I really thought that for maximum "yay!" factor I should P.R. our latest project like Tom & Katie P.R.ed Baby Suri - by waiting till the cone-head rounds out, the baby acne clears up and the project reaches its maximum baby chubby new-born cuteness.

Click the link and say "Awwwwwww!", pinch cheeks, count toes and fingers and then come back here and read the rest of the post:

We've been busy, no?

I love the way that in the past, we put out the call for funds and received such incredible generosity EVERY SINGLE TIME. It floors me. And I adore the DIY-ness and the grass-rootsyness of the past few years. I am AMAZED at what has been accomplished with such a loose, intuitive network.

But I also think it's time to get legitimate and take this model of do-gooding to the next level. To do ourselves the honor of taking it seriously and moving forward. It has always felt to me like I wasn't stepping up, personally, and making it real. So we had a period of retreating, germinating and conspiring and came up with a Plan to midwife the new organization.

To that end we've done the following:

1) We applied for and received a 501(c)(3) designation
2) We created the website
3) We have been cleared through PayPal to accept charitable donations as a 501(c)(3)
4) We have created bylaws
5) We are actively recruiting a diverse, committed Board to oversee Women's Work.

What you can do to help:

1) Go to the website and give us feedback on what you'd like to see, what can be clarified and what works or doesn't
2) Send people to the website
3) Donate to the Choice Fund or the Safety Project through the website.
4) FRIEND US ON LJ! http://womenswork.livejournal.com/profile
5) Repost this in your journal or community.

Locals can also:

1) Donate material goods
2) Volunteer to help coordinate resources for a Women's Work recipient
3) Tell us about women who may need our services
4) Volunteer your time as a mentor
5) Apply for a year-long Board position.

Thanks for all your love and support!
