1. What is your absolute favorite book (right now anyway)? Ash and I were talking about Dry by Augusten Burroughs and I realized I wanted to read it again. This would be time number 4. I actually read it twice in a row, like straight through and then
flipped it over and started again. I love that book, more than Running With Scissors which is a lot. I have never read something about addiction that was so lacking in maudlin-type sentimentality, guilt and self pity.
2. What comfort foods do you reach for? Bonus points for recipes ;-)
Cheese, Tater tots, French Fries - any of the fried potato family. Cheese fries = extra bonus
And collard greens!
2 bunches collard greens chopped into submission
1/2 cup veggie broth
1/2 tart green apple with peel, grated fine
Freshly ground green, white & red peppercorns to taste
1-2 tsp rice wine vinegar or lemon juice to taste
Optional: sesame oil and hot sauce
Bring veggie broth to a boil
throw in collards and apple
wait about 45 seconds
toss in vinegar/juice and cracked pepper
cover and simmer about 2 minutes, check
simmer and check frequently until just barely cooked enough to eat.
Take off heat & let rest for a couple of minutes
Drizzle with sesame oil and hot sauce if desired
YUM.
Also Wasabi mashed potatoes:
Mashed Potatoes - 5-6 mashed
powdered wasabi 1/2 t + to taste
vegan sour cream
vegan butter substitute
Smoosh. Eat.
Serve these with Tempura fried tofu and edamame with garlic and butter and it's like Nihon Soul Food heaven.
