I'm having PC issues. One of the cats decided that my machine looked like it needed a bath and knocked a glass of water over onto it. I thought I’d saved it...powered it off immediately, let it dry out. It ran fine for a couple of days, then started lagging and locking up. Then BLAM!, it was dead.
LD and I tore the PC apart. Cleaned everything out, dusted it all off. (How does that much crap accumulate inside of a closed machine, anyway?) Replaced the power supply, no go. So, it's looking like my motherboard/processor is toast. It's going to take a couple of days (week or so) to get the new one shipped and installed. I'm having trouble deciding what road to take right now though...do I stick with something relatively comparable to what I have now that runs the same memory (ddr333/pc2700) that I have in there or do I upgrade the motherboard/processor to a higher speed (running at 2.6ghz now) and just risk overrunning the RAM until I can afford new sticks?
If I stay with something comparable to what I have now (well, the closest is a tad slower at 2.4), I can continue to use the RAM that's in there and save myself a bit o' dough until I can upgrade the whole system in the next year or two. I should go that direction, but I get a tad crazy when it comes to tech crap and keep thinking I need bigger, badder, faster, better. But since it'll be at least a year or two before I can really afford to get the bells and whistles I want (minus the new video card which will be purchased MUCH sooner than that), I guess sticking with what I've got isn't going to be the end of the world.
Ah well...I think the money is what will decide it. I do have access to a laptop (and LD's PC) at home, but I find that many of the sites I go to don't function that well on it. I never realized how dependent on my machine I was. Guess I'll just have to suck it up and deal until I can get things back up and running.
I hate this...I just want my PC back!!! *waaah*
Times like these are when I need to win the lotto or something. Unlimited (well, sort of) cash right now would be nice. I feel like I should be inserting some sort of evil cackle here. *grin*
