Found it!
Years ago, when I was in Australia, I ate a strange but tasty fruit that impressed me with its odd skin but perfectly normal taste. I never learned the name of the fruit, but always knew I'd know it when I saw it. Every so often, I'd remember the fruit, and wonder what it was.
Well, thanks to the wonders of the internets, google and wikipedia, I now know what I ate. It was a Rambutan.
Looks odd. When the skin is peeled off, it looks like a peeled grape, and tastes pretty much like on as well. Yummo!
