Series on Christian Mystics

Jul 15, 2007 15:39

Today was the first session of my church's new Series on Christian Mystics, and we jumped right in with Pseudo-Dionysius' Mystical Theology.

Awesome.

Aside from the organizer LJ, and one other well-aged gentlemen, the men seemed to have the most trouble with the reading. Granted, the ladies had trouble too, but they seemed to be more able to work their way toward "getting it" (or, in this case, Not-Getting the Not-It, only, not so).

Dio's negative theology sheds light on the Ain, Ain Soph, and Ain Soph Aur of Kabbalistic thought, though. God, beyond being, or even not-being. What Robert Godwin refers to as O.

Anyway, the women seemed to better able to place themselves toward  (un)derstanding, while the other men seemed close off if they didn't get it the first time through. It makes no sense! They'd proclaim, to which LJ would smile and say "Exactly."

I think, I suspect, that LJ would make a good 'coon. . . and I don't think I'd mind to much were he to be a bat. . .

hmm hmm hmm. . .
