End of pseudo-NaNoWriMo

We reached the end of January, so the pseudo-NaNoWriMo-in -January that my brother and I were doing is now over.   For the second time in three months I actually finished a 50,000 word in a month challenge (50,297 as of 11:59pm on January 31st), so I'm rather proud of myself.  A few observations:

1) Word count is a really stupid measure of writing, which becomes more and more apparent the more of these things I do, but I'm not sure I know a better way to set a standard for something like NaNoWriMo

2) If I was in a better habit of writing regularly, NaNoWriMo would be extremely easy.  This second time around, I was already so used to writing frequently from a couple months ago that it never felt like I ever had to set aside special times to write, nor did I ever feel like writing interferred with anything else I wanted to do.  It's almost like I wrote 40k words subconciously and only really had to work on the other 10k or so.  I felt bad for my brother 'cause he hadn't written regularly in about five years, so he was really struggling while I had a relative cakewalk (he also got really sick for one week, which certainly didn't help either).

3) I am not doing one of these things for a while now--possibly 11/2010, although by the time 11/2009 I may be up for it again.  I already have two plots I'm kicking around for my next NaNoWriMo, but I really want to take a break from it to do some other things.  I just have to maintain some writing this time around so I don't have to start cold again.

Ah well, that's that.  Maybe in a few months I'll be up for trying to edit one of these monsters, but for now I'm through with this for a while...
