While wandering about the grocery store amidst all the SuperBowl straglers, buying their party supplies for the big game, I ran into the produce section. While there, I came across a fruit that I had only heard of... but had never seen. Actually, I didn't know what it was until I had a produce-boy point it out for me. I saw a quince.
Now, for those that have never had one before.. .I don't know if you'd like it. I sure didn't.
The produce-boy cut a wedge out of this beige-yellowish fruit. It seemed to have the flesh and texture of an apple.. slightly more firm than an apple starting to go mushy. I can't say that it was juicy and delicious.. I felt like I needed to take a drink of water to swallow it. The aftertaste left a slightly bitter taste in my mouth, and one that I can't say is all too pleasant.
Then again, I've never had a quince before this experience... So I have no idea if what I ate was a ripe peice of fruit.. or something barely passable.
I suppose I'll see what I run into next time around. :)
