So I'm sitting at my desk today working on vacating intern apartment units when my phone rings. It is Angela with the IT department. She asks "did you see your email?" I told her no because I was working on GM's system. She says to check it out. I open it and there is a job posting in my inbox. SIDE NOTE: Equity Corporate Housing hires from within first before posting positions outside the company. Anyhoo... I read the subject line and it says "User Support Job Flash". I'm like is this what I think it is and Angela says "That's the posting for my job."
I was like WTF?!?!?!? That posting was not supposed to come out for another month. The timing was going to be perfect for when my 6 months came around. It would be an easy transfer request (plus interview... etc). Angela tells me "get on it now!" I told her I was going to have to email my boss Duke and get his approval and such. She was like "do what you have to do. I already put in a word with my boss and Bill." Bill is the president of ECH and is the one responsible for hiring this new position. I have met bill on several occasions including my training and when he was onsite here during the GMAC negotiations. I told Angela "I will get right on it!"
So I emailed Duke explaining everything and inquiring if ECH makes exceptions for the 6 month rule. Duke writes back explaining that Bill should have no problem with this. Duke said he supports me 100% and will do whatever it takes. Well Bill already has a recommendation from Angela, a word from Angela's boss, and Duke. Things look good.
Now the money. I'm not sure exactly how much this will pay. It should be between the $45,000 and $70,000 range (based on average starting salaries for this position based on the city and the cost of living as quoted by The New York Times salary calculator). I'm thinking that is one hell of a range, but I will probably fall in the lower half of it. But then again I am unsure of her exact position in relations to the IT world of things so it could vary. Still, it is more than I make now. :)
I have 5 more days to find out anything (as internal postings are only internal for 5 days).
Keep some fingers crossed!
