Escape Velocity

My time at this hovel of shite is coming to an end. Over ten years in a depressing living situation, almost over. I won't ever share a place with anyone again. Unless it's a significant other. Or a very close friend. Very close.

August the 1st is my official moving day. I'll spend the next month dragging my meagre items over to the Bish. It's something to do innit. I have precious little in valuables. It's mostly dvds I don't watch. I can give those to charity. Means checking them, but I'll have plenty of time during my holiday. There are books, there are various gadgets and things. The only big items are this massive fucking tv I bought and a bed.

The tv is nice. The tv is pure. I hope I don't break it.

The flat is, like most pub accomodation, weirdly shaped. Due to being an old building with a drinking hole in it, it wasn't meant for living in I guess, which gives it a strange quality. I like that. When you open the door, a long corridor, thin and crooked, stretches out. Along this like a key shape, are several rooms. A kitchen, newly painted and rather spiffing, decked out with the ameneties. Steve is selling me the lot for 700, including the three piece in the front room. I'll say this about him, he *is* giving me a fucking bargain there.

Two bedrooms adjacent to this with a nice amount of space in each. I'll be using the second for visitors, whether that is friends, family, or just if one of the staff needs to crash. Although it will be my living space, I'm also not averse to letting my colleagues stay if they wish, if it's relatively sporadic. Not sure if I'll like that when it comes to it, but I can control it. Whenever I'm on shift I'll be letting them hop up to use the shitter. I mean, the pub is so full of cunts on a Saturday it's frankly inhuman for staff to have to use the pub's toilets. Never liked that. Perks of the job and all that.

That bedroom will also end up being a games room. The first such room I'll ever have. Being a massive nerd, I love video games. I'll be eventually having all my consoles and shite in there. However long I remain.

Next up, bathroom, which Steve had painted and spruced. In fact, everything is. I'm quite lucky, possibly. If this all goes well, I'll be in a very clean place I can take care of.

The corridor turns left after this, revealing another toilet newly built in a small room, next to a desk for yer usual gubbins. Telephone if you're old skool, somewhere to throw yer keys on and sigh at the end of a good, or bad day. And in my case, having left work and taken ten seconds to get home.

Nice.

Then you reach the front room. It's fuckin' huge. And it's lovely. There really is no complaining. I'm wary of being partly responsible for a building that's worth about 2 fucking MILLION QUID. ARGGGHGHHHH! But I already sort of am.

And the noise. But as I said, that really isn't an issue to me. Noises inside my space are the ones that give me anxiety. Anyway, the noises will only really be loud at times I'm not asleep or intending to be. Pub closes latest at 12am. I'm never asleep at that point. Plus, a good sound bar and I'm happy, bash some tunes out.

Another cracking perk is my VR headset. It works with the space you have. With a space as big as this, I can have a lot of fun. Particularly exercise. VR is insanely good for that. I lost two stone last year when the house was empty, showing the obvious advantages of having my own space.

Well, I can't talk much longer. It's late for fuck sake. Tomorrow is my first day sorting through my shit. Then, Thursday, my attention turns to London, to see my awesome chum Steph S doing a wrestle.

I'll not use their whole name, but I've known Steph for fifteen years, during which time they've had an incredibly interesting life. I'm well proud of 'em.

And I'll meet some lovely LGBTQ people I hope. I am awfully isolated from that crowd down here. Should be fun.
