I was standing in my room. He and the television were in his.
"You'll turn off the TV?" he asked.
The television was not on.
"What?"
"Will you turn off the TV?"
"I'm not watching TV."
"When I go to sleep. If the TV is still on and I'm asleep, will you turn it off?"
"Maybe? I'm not really going to be paying attention to whether or not you're awake with the television turned on."
"If you notice, will you turn it off?"
I took a deep breath and did not answer.
He turned the volume up and went to sleep.
