So this weekend Lemuel was pretty set on going to Vanderbilt. So set that we had our conversation about living in Nashville, and I'd even contacted a friend of mine who lives there to see if she could host me when I took Lemuel out for the first day of school. (She said yes--and she and her husband immediately started thinking about things like having Lemuel over for Sunday dinner at least once a month so he wouldn't feel so lonely--she was so excited!!)
Monday morning I wrote out a check for the $400 deposit, payable to Vanderbilt University, and Lemuel promised he'd get the acceptance form mailed in that day. And since it was final (I thought), I told a lot of people that Lemuel would be going to Vanderbilt in the fall--my parents and siblings, my advisor, my coworkers.
Monday evening Lemuel charged in the door to my house and exclaimed, "Carnegie Mellon sent me an updated financial aid offer! It's pretty good--I'm going to take it! Oh, by the way, their deposit is $800. Can you afford that? Because we can pay online."
So we sat down and did the paperwork (uh, onlinework?) and it was official.
Lemuel's going to school at Carnegie Mellon, one of the top schools for computer science in the nation.
