After the sad experience of watching months of effort (devoted to my seminar) get flushed down the drain, I have picked myself up and gone on with life. Highlights:
(1) Zoodada is visiting!! We haven't gone househunting as he promised we would do. But at least he has decided that living in Colorado wouldn't be an awful experience--he likes it here.
(2) I'm plugging away at mineralogy. This class has a huge memorization component to it--it's hard for me to keep up. (I neglected my studies for the 2 weeks preceding my seminar, and then proceeded to all-but-fail the first test--getting a 62%. The average was low, but not that low!) I've been working like mad since then and it's starting to show.
(3) I'm getting ready to start the preliminary work for my summer project. Originally I was going to work for Dr. Joker over the summer, but I scrapped that idea because of (a) lack of funding and (b) scheduling considerations. I'll be doing that work next fall. I'm doing a project for Dr. German instead. She's going to be on sabbatical at Harvard next year, and this is a crucial component of my thesis project, so I'm doing it sooner rather than later.
"Preliminary work for summer project" means doing something I never thought I would do--spending time in Dr. Scarecrow's lab learning how to culture algae!! I will soon have millions of little green pets who depend on me for their daily existence. Maybe I will even learn to love Chlamodymonas reinhardtii.
