Random things meme

Wow, tiredness of the beast. I embarked on an epic cleaning session today, and did my whole house. I ended up getting a bit carried away and did things like cleaning the oven and dusting all the fiddly bits (my flat is small, but covered in skirting boards and dado rails and random bits of moulding. Quaint, but dusty). Anyway, I had grand plans for getting some actual writing done today, but they have fallen by the wayside in the face of wine and old episodes of ER. With any luck tomorrow will be more writing-friendly, now I have a nice clean flat to write in!

I also had plans to make this an actual blog entry, but my brain is dead (I just typed 'look' for 'luck' in the last paragraph, coherence is a lost cause). So, I'm engaging in memeage instead! My answers to sarahetc's 5 random questions:

1. Mustard: fancy or plain? If fancy, how fancy? If plain, what brand?
Ooo, tricky. I never used to like mustard at all, but I've come around to it as a cooking ingredient, though definitely not as a sauce in its own right. I tend to go for the fancy ones when I'm cooking - the wholegrain type, usually French. Broccoli soup with dijon mustard, mmmmm.

2. Are you the sort of person who can wear mismatched socks on a regular basis?
Definitely not! I can't bear having mismatched socks, even if they are the same colour. They're always subtly different in length and texture, and it bugs me. DF, on the other hand, actively refuses to have paired socks. He used to protest when I paired his up (so now less work for me, woppyaya! Not that he requires me to do his laundry, but I am usually the one who ends up with the folding and pairing part of the job).

3. Only one color polish for your toenails for the rest of your life. What is it?
Ooo, this is quite hard. I'm not much of a nailvarnish person these days, although I went through a phase when I was about 17 or 18 of wearing it all the time. So it's not like I have any particular favourites. If I only had to choose one, though,I'd probably go for something sparkly. Maybe silver, as that could go with anything, although a few little purple sparkles in there would not go amiss. I could have one of those ones with iridescent sparkles, I suppose. Yes! Silver with iridescent sparkles *final answer*.

4. What's the strangest thing you ever dug up in the backyard as a kid?
Erm... I used to dig up a lot of stuff in our garden, but I'm not sure anything really counted as strange. I got tons of fragments of china, and the odd bit of money, mostly Victorian pennies. Also random brasswork like door handles. My house (or my mum's house, I have my own house now, obviously) is about 300 years old, so there was some excitement to be had there - I was always expecting to find a servant girl's locket that would whick me back into the past, or something. In my friend's garden we dug up loads and loads of bones, and always half-believed we would find human bones one day... actually, I think the weirdest thing was a horse's skull, that was pretty unsettling. (My friend's house had been the village slaughterhouse in times past.)

5. Alan Tudyk wants to take you out to dinner. Do you talk about harpoons up front, or let that wait for dessert and coffee?
Alan <333 *takes a moment* Oh gosh, I think I'd wait for dessert and coffee. And liquers, And then I'd get all weepy and emotional, ahahha. It seems rude to refer to someone's death (even fictional death) before the starters! Plus, once we got to know each other better, bringing up such an emotional topic could provide an opportunity for mutual comfort *takes another long moment*.

Now everybody plays!

1. Leave me a comment saying anything random, like your favorite lyric to your current favorite song. Or your favorite kind of sandwich. Something random. Whatever you like.

2. I respond by asking you five personal questions so I can get to know you better.

3. You WILL update your LJ with the answers to the questions.

4. You will include this explanation and offer to ask someone else in the post.

5. When others comment asking to be asked, you will ask them five questions.
