I'm jealous you got to see Spoon, sounds like a great show.
My take on tall dudes at concerts: (Full disclosure: I'm not super tall, but I'm 6'1 so tall enough.) My philosophy is if tall people are there before me, I shouldn't bitch about their big heads in front of me. Fair's fair. If they squeeze their way up front though, that's just rude and unacceptable -- no matter who, even with short girls, it's rude an unacceptable to do that...EXCEPT when people are stupid enough to leave a big gap right in front of themselves. As nice as it is to have lots of space, leaving a big gap in front of me just invites people to come stand right there and then, again, I have no right to be upset if someone tall takes the space.
I sort of feel bad if there's someone short behind me, but I'm not rude enough to just go stand in front of short people (or anyone) if it wasn't my spot to begin with, so if they're behind me it's because they came along after me and picked that spot so I don't really feel bad.
However, if dudes are like super-tall, like 6'5 or something, they should probably know that even if they get there early enough to be upfront, they should be more towards the side maybe.
It was so great, I'm still cruising on that post-concert high.
Totally. It's not the tall people who are there before me. I mean, if you're a superfan who happens to be super tall, it's not fair for me to demand you stand at the back or side if you show up early. But if you're squeezing in front of me (and I am aware of the Gap you speak of and consequently leave no room in front of me, which unfortunately stops NOBODY) I am going to be pissed if you're much taller than me, which is not hard to do, since I'm fairly average in height.
I work with two guys who are 6'7" and know another guy who is 6'8". Two of them are concertgoers and abide by the tall-dude rules and stand to the side. All three are sports fans who frequently slouch in their seats for fear of constantly being in the way. Luckily, stadium seating has helped this issue. The guy who was behind me had to be at LEAST 6'6". It seems like the super-tall have come to terms with their height being an issue.
