RIP
Lux Interior.
I just reread my review of the third, and sadly now last, time I saw them live and can do no better in tribute so I'm reposting it here.
The Cramps, London Astoria, 26th September 2003
Last night I went to see The Cramps for the third time. The last time I saw them was about ten years ago and they were fantastic. Lux was wearing pvc trousers and stilettoes and climbing all over the PA system with his ass hanging out. I wondered if they'd still rocking as hard, Lux is now 57 years old and Ivy's 50, that's only a few years younger than my mum and dad, respectively.
Oh God yeah, they've still got it. Ivy was fantastic, dead pan and superior as ever. Still looking gorgeous too. Lux had swapped the stilettoes for chelsea boots and kept his top on but he still clambered all over the stacks with his trousers pulled down just below his hips and finished by crashing into the drumkit. I think he got his dick out but I'm pleased to report that I missed that.
The bass player has a Johnny Cash tattoo and had written RIP underneath it. They dedicated Color Me Black from the new album to Cash's memory.
The music was excellent too. They played loads of old stuff, opening with Dames, Booze, Chains and Boots and then going straight into Garbageman. They also played TV Set, Hot Pearl Snatch, New Kind of Kick, Psychotic Reaction and the one that goes "ooh eeh aah ahh!" [She Said] as well as quite a few from the new album.
