Mad Cap

So I feel like I should do a little venting about the first week of school, although all in all it went amazingly well. I think it was the best first week I've had as far as the students being so wonderful! I think part of that has to do with me being at the school for so long. Half of our teachers are new this year - and I think the kids are happy to have a little 'normalcy' ie, teachers they know.

Bad things: I didn't get a list of my students until Monday morning - the day they showed up....I still don't have a gradebook (and we HAVE to use the ones they give us - they are still *on order*), my room is a f*cking sauna because the AC isn't working, no one knows whether, when, or IF the supplies I ordered two weeks ago may show up, Tuesday someone lit off firecrackers in the hallway coming back from lunch and yelled GUN!! - causing pandemonium, the police showed up yesterday morning to do searches on all students entering the building (this always makes the kids really upset)

In a normal high school this may have seemed like a silly prank, but in Baltimore where he have the second highest murder rate in the country - 209 murders this year, not so funny.

I started one of the classes that I need to renew my certification. Like I don't have enough to do. It's a graduate level 'Reading in the Content Areas', which I swear I already took as part of my masters degree, but I'm taking it again just to make sure. Oh well. Through a deal between Towson University and Baltimore City I get to take it for $100. Not bad for 3 graduate credits, mind you :)

I sooooo need this 3 day weekend. I haven't had a day off since July 4th.
