Life has been so insane recently, I seem to be spending every hour I'm not in college either working on my UCAS application or doing work. Which is basically why I decided to make an entry today after I don't know how long, and got confused because the editor's changed.
I still managed to catch Glee and the Fades though, so I'm going to squee about that for a bit. I use a few gifs, so watch out for spoilers.
The Fades was amazing. That's more or less all I have to say because I was pretty confused, but that's to be expected on the first episode of the first series of a show; if you didn't end up confused then there'd be no reason to keep watching. The opening credits were really gorgeous. Daniel Kaluuya was amazing, I wasn't sure what to expect with him because I wasn't massively impressed by him on Skins, but he was so funny as Mac. The guy who played Paul was brilliant but he looked really familiar, IMDB's not solved it though.
And Lily Loveless was perfect, obviously. :-D I'm hoping Anna will get some more character development throughout the series. I'm sure she will, because Jack Thorne surely knows how talented she is, but I'm enjoying watching her as the bitchy, bratty girl as well.
I'm also interested to find out more about Paul and his father, as well as generally the whole family's dynamic.
What impressed me about it was how effectively creepy it was. I don't get scared particularly easily but I found some of the scenes really scary. Like This:
or this:
The ash dream sequences were also really nice.
I also liked how easily it was explained away why Paul and Mac were in a shopping centre when it's closed, in other shows that would have seemed slightly cliche but they managed to pull it off.
I'm excited to see Joe Dempsie come into the show as well.
And just for the hell of it:
The Fades premiered on Wednesday, and in England Glee was on the Thursday. Which is just as well, because it meant I could watch both since I don't have Sky+.
So I was cautiusly optimistic about the start of Glee, but for an opening to the series I thought it was great. In fact, it may be one of my favourite Glee episodes./>This was supposed to be a bullet point list, but Lj's being annoying, so bear with me.
No Lauren! Christ, this made me so happy. I won't go into a massive Lauren rant, because basically I'll never stop, but I hated Lauren. So much. Oh my God.
Sam has also gone. I may have cared more about this if the show had done anything with Sam in the first place. He was just the guy with big lips.
Will and Emma are now a couple and are being all adorable with their matching lunchboxes and snuggling in bed when they're watching TV.
It's kind of unrealistic that Blaine would randomly join Kurt's school just to see him (don't parents usually get a say in that kind of thing?) but I don't really care because I think they're cute together and it means more Kurt/Blaine.
Blaine sang Tom Jones. I think it was round about that time I decided this was the happiest I've ever been watching a Glee epsode. I have a strange fascination with how Tom Jones sounds American but is Welsh. Generally I really loved the songs in this episode. Calamity Jane! Hairspray!
Kurt and Rachel were really sweet in this episode. I love the friendship they have. I like how they actually carried on the theme from the last series about their dream to make it in New York. I also liked the scene where they meet the competition and the subsequent scene in the car where neither of them think that they're good enough but then Kurt tells Rachel he's going to make sure that she gets in to the school, and she says the same back.
Quinn has pink hair.
see? :-D In all seriousness, though I hope that this means Quinn will actually get some character development that is consistent for her. Because this makes sense to me for Quinn. She's a girl who is very self conscious and very concerned about how she looks and how others see her. So while she's done this radical change, she's really no different from the blonde cheerleader who got a nose job in terms of falseness. I really hope that before the show is finished that changes about her.
Santana and Rachel both had quite sweet little scenes with Quinn, too, which nicely expanded on their development last series.
There was very little Rachel/Finn and very little Artie, which made me very happy too :-)
And that's about it in terms of TV, I was going to see what Fresh Meat was like but I missed it, but I might cath that on 4od. I'm annoyed that This is Jinsey is on Sky Atlantic because the pilot of that was really funny and right up my alley. I'm not sure about whether I should watch the Secret Circle, which airs in England next week. It has Phoebe Tonkin in it, who is gorgeous and I still love from H2o, as gloriously crap as that show was. I think it may be one of those shows which is either amazing or awful.
