Long and the short of it is, my mate broke her upper arm riding her bicycle back home yesterday.
I got the call at about 1330 yesterday, and was there ASAP. Ambulance was already there so I found out where they were taking her, and stuffed the bike in the back of the van, getting myself over there as well.
Once at the emergency ward, was there right before they took her for X-rays. They came back showing a hairline fracture on the upper humerus(upper arm bone), right below the knob where it joins the shoulder girdle. Initial prognosis is she'll be out 2-3 months. Treated and released at least.
So now we're both home, and the REAL fun begins. I grabbed her prescription for Hydrocodone and she's been on those for the pain, though it makes her pretty sleepy. I've been helping her up and down off the bed, getting water and meals for her and myself, so far finding out how many peanut butter and jelly sandwiches I can live on before I get sick of them.
It's making me all the more happy I never had kids. I'd never survive the experience. I suppose it'd get easier once a routine gets established, but still. Grocery shopping, making sure all the pills and meals are given at the right times, keeping her AND myself bathed and all, running errands, trying to keep the house in order, blah blah blah blah blah blah blahhhhhhhhhh...
She's sleeping right now till about 11pm when I give her the final round of painkillers for the day, and maybe flop into bed myself.
Now for what's coming up. Obviously I need to file a short term disability claim ASAP. Monday somebody has to contact the hospital both to get her to an orthopedist that day, AND maybe find a GP who'll take our insurance while we're at it.
I DO thank the gods we saved and saved and farking saved for times such as this. It should be enough to keep us out of debt until the claim comes through at least. The benefit booklet says it could take up to 45 days to process. Jeeziz flipping Christ on a biscuit! I don't know how anyone without a buttload of savings would survive financially. Guess they wouldn't.
So, prayers and well wishes are always appreciated and we could use all we can get at this point.
Zon 14 out.
