MY LIFE IS SO DIFFICULT

Jan 12, 2011 11:31

you have NO IDEA how hard it is to balance an enormous cup of coffee in my still-mostly-paralyzed hand, while trying to type with the now-mostly-functional hand.

(observe my icon of uselessness. and NO. I DO NOT WANT TO TALK ABOUT HER RECENT APPEARANCES OF SILENT USELESSNESS. yes, i do.)

it's make fun of the cripple time, guillain-barre

Aww well, there is a Wolverine & Jubes mini coming up and she'll probably have to talk in that, right?

that looked kinda promising, and i was cautiously excited about it. and then i read the blurb for the third issue, AND SHE GETS KIDNAPPED AND WOLVERINE HAS TO RESCUE HER.

AGAIN.

i swear, wolverine must be so freakin tired of rescuing people. that's all he does, like, 78.5% of the time.

I was listening to this podcast where a fanboy was talking about some new Wolverine comic where instead of kicking people's ass Wolverine went to a dance club and was giving girls haircuts and talking about his favorite beats to dance to, or something. And this fanboy wanted to burn it and I was like "Wait what maybe I should read that at least it is different!!"

I feel like Logan would have to have learned to dance at some point, if only for undercover. Plus we all know he was a poncy little kind in Canada once upon a time, he probably learned the minuet and quadrille.

is...is that for real? because i would buy that book and love it. you know, i think the best thing anyone's done for that character in recent history is the whole regression/paper dolls/moose thing from ye olde axm.

have you read the wolverine reboot at all? it's your basic wolverine fare, and the writing's kind of predictable, but it's pretty badass. i have no idea if they'll be able to sustain it past the whole hellraiser: now with more wolverine! arch. is it wrong of me to just want some rucka-style manly brawling and semi-existential angst?

I have not been reading it. Is that the Jason Aaron one?

The one with the haircutting is called something like "Wolverine: The Best there Is". It's by Charlie Huston and was advertised as 'the most violentist book ever.' They did not sell it w/ 'Wolverine beauty tips' which is really a shame.

it is, yeah. i don't really know aaron's work, what with the recent hiatus from life, but it's kind of like he sat down with a list of things i like (hell, creepy demons, daddy issues, brawling, ghost rider and other characters from '90s comics, madripoor) and then based the book around that. also, covers by jae lee. can't go wrong with jae lee.

snerk. poor wolverine. all he's ever really wanted is to be a hair stylist. and to hang out with his girls at the discotheque. hey, you think we can get in the door at marvel by pitching "wolverine: not making a case for heterosexuality"?

i tried reading huston's "already dead" and was underwhelmed enough to not finish it.

I have not really heard anything to "recommend" Huston's work aside from that haircut thing. But. . .there is the haircut thing?

Have you read any of the Dark Wolverine stories? It's about Wolverine's long lost half Asian son and because it's co-written by Marjorie Liu, he's also bisexual and makes out with Bullseye. IDK.

i was tricked into reading way's wolverine title back in the day, with the dakin's effing ridiculous origin story. other than awesome hair and sweet tattoos, there did not seem to be much to recommend him. or, you know, the whole book in general. i'll try dark wolverine, though. i like marjorie liu a lot, and i guess if he's making out with...bullseye...really? bullseye? is he into dudes?

My understanding is that the Dark Wolverine series is more Liu than Way? I didn't read all of the issues, so I'm not sure how mutual the Bullseye thing was but Daken was obviously trying to throw him off by flirting with him and Bullseye's reactions were ambiguous. There's a scene where they are going off into battled and Daken grabs Lester and lays a big one on him, like so.

Of course then they went and killed off Bullseye :-/.
