the odyssey

Without sounding overdramatic (me?), the past few weeks have been a bit of a pain. After dealing with my body trying to begin hibernation in about mid-February, I then proceeded to come down with a cold. Just when I thought I had kicked that, I got knocked on my ass by the sinus infection right as S. was coming in to town. Then when I was finally on the mend and ready to enjoy a 4-day weekend, S. came down with the flu, so I spent most of my days off looking after her. Although she did sleep most of the time and it wasn't taxing, it's not really what I had in mind for a long weekend. We did get out and hike for a bit on Thursday, but it was like 40 degrees in the mountains with insane winds, so that didn't last too long. I did manage to pick up a delicious apple pie in Julian, though, so the day wasn't all bad.

Of course since I was house-bound for long periods this weekend, due to illnesses and inclement weather, I got to (what else?) watch more movies.

Movies that I caught recently:

Exorcism of Emily Rose: Really good. More courtroom drama than I expected, but tight and well-written, and creepy enough to give me bad dreams.

The Ring Two: Complete garbage.

Gridlock'd: Pretty good movie. Needed something to watch on the TV downstairs, which has no TiVo or DVD player, and odonata9 suggested this. Tim Roth's always good, and Tupac was really amazing in the few films that he did. Such a waste.

Dark Water: Not a bad movie. Good cast (Tim Roth again), same basic plot as The Ring, ending kind of lame.

King Arthur: Convoluted and goofy. Needed something to watch downstairs again on the TV by the fireplace, and OnDemand was broken, so we couldn't watch The Constant Gardener, which was our first choice.

Walk the Line: Incredible. I'd heard that the leads sang their own parts, but to actually hear it is unbelievable. I didn't see Capote, so I have no idea how good PSH was, but what Joaquin pulled off in this movie is completely unbelievable.

But now I'm feeling healthy (back to the gym for the first time in 2.5 weeks yesterday), I have no more guests to look after, my last guitar class is this week, and spring is right around the corner. Hopefully things will mellow out a bit and I'll stay healthy so I can get out and do stuff, hang with friends, and enjoy myself.
