An early post for the week, i was going to write about the physiological tricks one
smoothie used to manipulate a Mcdonald's employee into giving head to her supervisor (as seen on a current affair) or about how the ecological simulators in Ultima Online led to the development of super powerful bunnies that laid waste to the newbie stomping ground, until deleted by a Game Master.
Instead, because it has come to my attention that
Project Joystick has been launched, something should be mentioned.
Project Joystick is a competition being run jointly by
AMCI and Bigpond Telstra.
BigPond is investing over one million dollars to develop the best entry into a new mobile and online game. If you have a good idea for a game, whether it's a simple, catchy puzzle or a strategic epic - tell us about it! If our expert panel judges it the best, you could see your vision realised as a hot new game.
-
ACMI Webpage In short: You submit an idea for a game, and if you win Bigpond gives 1 million dollars to a development company (unnamed as yet) and it is developed! for the PC and for your mobile! This is your chance to get that game, you know, the one you have been thinking of: that is like GTA mixed with Rockstar, or maybe the one which is like Pokemon mixed with Bejeweled - finally made!
Anyway, you get the
idea, so whats the catch? you get your game made for you, AND you might win a phone...
When you apply for the competition, regardless of whether you win or not, bigpond legally gains all the intellectual property and Moral rights to your idea.

Yayyy! Wait, didn't Telstra recently release their new
casual games portal? with downloadable mobile phone games?
So in one foul swoop, Telstra get some free marketing research, gets to pick the best 10 out of the submitted ideas to turn into downloadable games and it will only cost them equipment they had laying about anyway.
Bravo Telstra, Bravo.
