I just read back over my entries for the past year--there really aren't that many, between the kids and the Facebook and the boring life--but what really surprises me is that it's only been a year since Penny wasn't saying anything, and now she's saying everything. Not always understandably, but her silent frustration days are long gone, and she's zipping along. Her teachers at preschool say that while she still doesn't talk a hell of a lot there, she loves to sing, that's when she really blooms. (She's "reading" me Hop on Pop right now)
Ellie, on the other hand, appears to totally typical in speech development, thank goodness. I've been doing the same baby sign language with her that I used with Penny when she couldn't tell me what she wanted, but Ellie is picking up the words faster than the signs. "Ah duh!" (all done) as she rubs her hands together. SO CUTE. She's going to be 14 months in two days, how the hell did that happen?
We got the Christmas tree down and out (a whole month sooner than usual!) and now the living room looks so empty. Not for long, I'm sure. We still haven't figured out how to position Penny's kitchen (from Santa, she LOVES to help/watch Daddy cook in the big kitchen) and her grandpa, my dad, gave her an art easel (being a graphic artist himself) and so we have to set that up too. I think I'm going to put that where the tree was, because that's the best light. I just hope we don't end up with chalk or whatever all over the windows (again...luckily the markers in her school Christmas bag were water based, but hoo boy was that a freakout moment)
I guess it's just a parenthetical kind of day.
