I did it! I successfully navigated the fuck scene and strangely enough, I really like this one. It was done in one sitting without any of the usual getting-up-and-hiding-in-the-bathroom breaks I usually do where I review what I've written and try to decide in my mind whether or not it sounds ridiculous. Sex scenes lend themselves to cliches and terrible writing easier than most, and although I don't know what it says about me that I'd rather write a cannibalism scene than a love sequence any day of the week, it's true.
Sooooo... in other uncomfortable news, I have sent my follow-up letter to the publisher I submitted to and as it turns out, I made a mistake. Remember when I said that I had submitted to Cellar Door Publishing, doers of graphic novels and therefore there might be a chance Salvation could see life as a tastefully rendered comic? Like so many other things in my life, I was wrong about that. Research in the bowels of my laptop shows that I had actually submitted to the equally cool-named Elder Signs Press, who can be viewed
here and specializes in Lovecraftian tales or horror and madness.
This is not to say that this is all they do, though; they are branching out into the very areas I specialize in, namely magic, death, horror and a little bit 'o love. They tastefully render their covers and look to be a pretty classy organization, so we'll see if they have any love for America's Favorite Literary Bus Driver and the start of what could be a very profitable franchise. Time and the U.S. Postal Service will tell.
My diet has me wanting solid food in the evenings, but I am resisting and continuing to drink all-natural fruit smoothies that are pretty damn tasty. Other than that, my life is boring.
