There is room for abuse, but I'm not having any kid of mine talk to me like that without them getting a slap.

Yeh, well if they were my kids they'd know that if they even tried to hit me I'd just block 'em. I guess you're right about trying to control them psychologically, but like I said, when I was a bairn, even being threatened with a smack was enough to make you stop in your tracks.

Yeh, I know what you mean, but you've got to teach your kids that if they do something wrong, they're going to get punished, &decide what punishment is appropriate. Once they've grown out of being scared by being threatened with a smack, then you've got to do something else.

See, I think if you lay down the rules really early on &make sure kids know that there WILL be repercussions &that their actions have consequences, then they're less likely to grow up to be shits. It's mainly when parents let their kids run riot &do whatever they want that things get so bad.

&my parents were always pretty liberal with me, as long as I didn't keep things from them &I was sensible about stuff, but I always knew that there'd be repercussions if I did anything really bad. Plus they always talked to me about stuff &made sure they knew what I was doing &that nothing bad was happening.
