Dead Heads & Rabid

Two more Zombie movies. (Kind Of):

DEAD HEADS:

Dead Heads tries its best to be a zombie comedy but it struggles to be actually funny. Two guys find themselves to be high functioning zombies and begin a journey home so one of them can see his girl friend who he was intending to marry. The production values arent bad and the characters and performances are okay but having sat through it I can remember smiling a few times but not actually laughing at any point. As a comedy its pretty flat.

RABID:

I had forgotten about this early David Cronenberg offering until recently. Strictly speaking its not actually a zombie film. Nobody uses the z-word and nobody is undead. There is a rabies like virus (passed by biting) that spreads out of control in a Canadian city. Apart from the lack of undead action the film still functions in much the same way as a zombie film and if it was released today (in the modern boom of zombie interest) it would almost certainly be marketed as such. Many of the themes are similar to those Cronenberg explored in Shivers (but on a larger scale). The film is also notable for casting a very well known porn star in the female lead. It is the downbeat final scene that clinches the deal for me as it is very much in the spirit of Romero's night Of The Living Dead.
