Fandom and Eclipse and Other Stuff

Jun 28, 2010 12:16

So, there's this article on msnbc.com (here) that says this:

"Fandom, it seems, is more about hoping the guy gets the girl and less about what the girl wants."

Moron. Whoever wrote this is a complete and utter moron.

I don't have much more to say about it than that.

Actually, okay, this redeems them a little:

"Now that may be because it's nearly impossible to tell who Bella herself wants at any given moment - or it might just be because Bella is annoying."

Also, there's this other article -here- (yes, I got both of these links from Cleolinda).

This article is an interview with the director of Eclipse, David Slade. (Also, the guy gets major points just for his name. It's a really cool name.) And here is a quote:

"One of the first things we did was sit down and work out the physiology. We know they sparkle, we know they kind of crack if you hit them really hard, but they heal really fast. So we decided to figure out the physiology, and we had a lot of fun doing that. We had human cross sections made. And we figured out that they were crystal-lined structures so they could sparkle. Then which layer of fat would do it. So when we hit them hard enough they would crack or break. We figured they were kind of carbon formed underneath. All of their bone structure and muscles was crystal lined when formed. That was a lot of fun to do. But yeah we ended up smashing them to pieces quite a bit. The story dictates that we had to break them and smash them so we had to figure out how to do that in a really convincing way. The main thing for me was to execute it in a convincing way. And make the effects as real as possible in as much time as we had to do it. We wanted to bring the realism up a little more, so you could focus on the story and not spend time looking at the effects."

I'm not a fan of 30 Days of Night (which he also directed), but this director sounds amazing. He actually makes the sparkling thing make sense. Who'd have known that was possible? Really, I mean, who?

But you know what the sad part is?

He had to come up with this.

There are four books and he, the director of the movie based on a book, had to come up with this. He didn't do it alone, but my point is, this stuff, basic, important stuff, was never included in the books. I didn't notice this, I don't know if anyone did, but, I mean, wow....

FAIL. And also, SHAME! Stephanie Meyer should be ashamed.

Lastly, on other fandom news, last night's episode of Drop Dead Diva.

Tony is moving! Because of his job! Did I call it or what?

(To people who aren't Ver, if anyone else is reading this, in the preview last week, Tony said he had something to tell Jane. I guessed it was that he got the job and that he had to move. And I was right!)
