The Doctor Who convention over the weekend was lovely. Got to catch up with a few friends I made there last year, and it was great. It reminded me that last year at this time I was in my last quarter at Cal State, writing a term paper on fanfiction. So many people are into it at this thing...and I learned quite a bit both last year and this time!
Unfortunately, not many of my photos came out... which is probably for the best, now that I think about it. I don't usually post pictures anyway but -- here are two for your amusement.
These came out so dark, but here's me and the sweetie being complete nerds in front of the Tardis. Someone in Chicago owns this, and brings it out on a truck every year and sets it up for this convention.
And here I am RATHER drunkenly taking a phone pic of my arm. One of my friends and former co-workers came to L.A. that night - he's an artist. He gave me a lovely Sharpie tattoo right in the middle of the "Vegas in Space" disco. Note my smug expression - clearly I'm the first person EVER to figure out how to snap a photo in the mirror. Oh God, all I can say is it was REALLY late and things were very silly at that point. But I get to pretend to be inked, so that's fun!
I'll just add that there were amazing, amazing costumes in the Saturday night masquerade. Some fun panel discussions, including slash fic and where it can go in the future... I went to a podcast taping. Some old guy who also does a Doctor Who podcast (not the same one) was hitting on me at the dance. He was trying to be really smooth and casual, like, "Where's your husband?" And I'm like, "He's right there!" As a nerd magnet, I STILL GOT IT BABY!
That's about all. If anybody's curious about any of the discussion, I'm happy to share my notes. It'll be just like being in school! Just leave me a comment if you want to know more. I had a great weekend but I'm so glad to be home!
