Orcs, Stan Nicholls
In retrospect, I should have been wary when I saw that the front cover quote was by David Gemmel. While the concept of using the much-maligned Orc as the protagonist was a nice subversion of tiresome fantasy tropes, everything else was boringly typical. A lost opportunity. I'll stick with China Mieville, I think.
The Player Of Games Ian M Banks
Enjoyable, but not hugely inspiring. I think I'm a bit cultured out. Still, the Empire of Azad - Dominated by a species with three sexes whose religious, social and cultural systems are all based on the game that gives the empire it's name - was pretty original.
I'm tired all the time now. I need to eat better.
