Frank Iero at only 4 years old was possibly the sweetest boy you have ever imagined. He had longish brown hair that hung in front of his huge chocolate brown eyes. His clothes mainly consisted of plain black or white shirts with Spiderman on, and some baggy jeans. Frank had the cheekiest smile that would even making the most senile, stuck up old man bite his tongue. His presence glowed like a sunrise that made everybody go into a cheery mood having spent a few minutes talking to him. He wasn’t by all means shy; he made himself more known in a room than a hurricane. Frank never had a best friend; he had too many to say which one he liked the most. Everywhere he went people would smile and wave; sometimes even give him a chocolate bar.

Linda Iero and Anthony Iero were the proudest parents in the neighbour hood. Everyone always told them how great there son was and how he was the sweetest little thing they ever saw. Other mothers always shoved there daughters to be friends with him that in hopes one day he will ask her out as he was the most adorable thing at 4 years old, everyone just knew that as he grew older he would be a stunner. Frank never got big headed though, even with all the attention Frank always shared the free candy he got and always let someone else choose what to play when they went to the park.

Frank loved the park because even at 4 years old he knew it was the most beautiful place he had ever seen. The field had summer green grass with a collection of many amazing flowers in the middle. Frank had once seen a movie that his mom and dad had been watching where two people put there lips together and Frank didn’t know what they were doing but he knew that when he wanted to put his lips to someone he wanted to be sat right in front of the flowers when the sun was setting. Of course neither Frank nor anyone else for that matter thought his first kiss would be with a boy, everyone just thought he preferred to play cops and robbers with the boys and that’s why Frank always pushed the girls away, but Frank knew it was because they made him cringe. He didn’t think that it was in a sexual way as when you are at the age of 4 all boys think girls are gross, right?

Frank had been playing monster trucks in his room when he heard some loud banging outside his home. He climbed on top of his toy box that was under his window as Frank was quite short. He peered over the edge to see a large van moving things into the house across from his own. He managed to see a woman with blonde hair and a man with black greying hair moving suitcases from a car when he saw his own mother go across the street. Frank had enough of straining is neck to see and went back to play with his trucks when about 15 minutes later there was a knock at his door.

“Frank? Are you in here?” Frank’s head shot up to his mother’s voice.

“Yes mommy, I’m just playing with my trucks,” Frank replied crashing one of the trucks into another one then making an exploding noise with his mouth. Frank’s mother opened the door and came in but Frank didn’t look up.

“Frank there is someone I want you to meet,” Linda said, holding a young boy by the shoulders. Frank again looked up. There in his mothers embrace he saw the weirdest yet wonderful looking boy he had ever seen. His black hair came just below his ears and flicked in front of his eyes which were a burning hazel. He was so pale that it looked like he had never seen day light and Frank loved it. “This is Gerard, his family has just moved across the street and I told them I would look after Gerard as they got everything sorted out,” Linda smiled, pushing Gerard slightly more into the room.

Once his mother had left Gerard stayed stood where he was looking extremely shy. Frank stood up and went over to him; Frank held his hand out and smiled his infamous smile. Frank only ever held his hand out to people because he had seen his father do it and thought it made him look more grown up. Gerard smiled back and shook Franks hand giggling.

“Do you want to play pirates?” Frank asked, cocking his head to the side. Gerard nodded his head and let himself be pulled over to Frank’s toy box. Frank opened it up where he pulled out two swords, hats and eye patches and handed one of each to Gerard. “Okay, I’ll ask my mommy to bury the treasure then we have to sail the 6 seas to find it. Okay?” Frank asked after putting on his eye patch. Gerard nodded again but then spoke.

“What is the treasure?” Gerard asked looking around Frank’s room. Frank went over to his desk and pulled out a fake gold necklace and handed it to Gerard.

“Is that okay?” Gerard nodded his head fast and gave it back to Frank to give to his mom. Frank took Gerard’s wrist and pulled him down the hall to where his mother was in her room.

“Is everything okay, honey?” Linda asked seeing Frank rush into her room.

“Will you hide our treasure?” Frank asked holding out the necklace. Linda laughed and took it from Frank then left Gerard and Frank in her room until her return. They sat on the floor as they waited, “Do you like Spiderman?” Frank asked with his eyes glowing up. Gerard giggled and nodded his head.

“Batman is beted though,” Gerard said putting a cheeky grin on his face. Frank grinned too as Gerard’s was infectious. “But Spideyman can make a web so he is cool,” Gerard added to his previous statement. Frank couldn’t believe it most of his other friends liked transformers and thought Spiderman was un-cool, Frank gave Gerard a big hug and told him how cool he was. Gerard just blushed and hugged Frank back. Frank thought that maybe he could say which one of his friends he liked the best.

After a few unruly hours of Frank and Gerard trying to dig up the back yard Linda had managed to bring them inside for something to eat. As they sat at the table Frank smiled at Gerard as big as he could in some what of a challenging way. Gerard smiled as big and as hard as he could causing Frank giggle like a little school girl.

“Mommy can Gerard stay over tonight?” Frank asked putting the ‘puppy dog look’ on his face. Linda thought long and hard but then thought why not, the Ways need some time to get everything sorted.

“Okay honey, but you still have to go to bed when I say,” Linda answered putting on a firm voice.

“Okay mommy!” Frank screamed and pulled Gerard to his room.

It was the beginning of a great friendship.

A year later at the age of 5 Frank and Gerard were joined at the hip, everywhere one was you could expect to find the other. Frank was sat in the Way’s sandbox with Gerard. Frank watched Gerard build a castle, and then Frank spoke.

“My mommy said to ask your family over to a party tomorrow night. She said you can come to,” Frank said as he put a tiny flag into one of the sections of Gerard’s castle.

“I’ll tell her! Look Frankie, I made our house when we grow up,” Gerard said admiring his own work. Frank looked in awe at the castle. “We’re going to get married and have babies too,” Gerard added smiling to himself.

“Who is going to have the baby?” Frank asked looking puzzled.

“You are because when we play mommies and daddies you are always mommy,” Gerard pointed out taking Franks hand. They were always close, the adults thought it was cute but Gerard and Frank shared something that they both didn’t understand.

The party at the Ieros had been going fantastic. Frank had no idea why they were having a party but it meant more time with Gerard for him. The two were in the living room where most of the adults were. Frank was sat on the floor with a doll on his lap and Gerard sat next to him.

“Honey, what are you doing with that doll?” Linda asked, seeing her son with a girl’s toy.

“It’s mine and Gerard’s baby, he’s the daddy and I’m mommy,” Frank said as though it was the most obvious thing in the world. The crowd around them awed then went back to talking when Frank heard something he would rather have not.

“So when are you actually moving?” He heard the man that was talking to his mother say. Frank stood up and pulled on his mothers arm.

“Mommy why did that man ask when we were moving?” Frank asked, tears filling his eyes. Linda gave a sigh; she knew she would have to tell him at some point. The party had gone quiet as if they were waiting to hear a needle drop to the floor.

“Erm, honey, we are moving to London. That’s in England,” Linda said trying to make out as though it was a fabulous place. Frank let the tears slip and he grabbed Gerard’s hand.

“No mommy, what about Gerard! I can’t leave without him,” Frank screamed through his tears which made his throat hurt.

“I’m sorry honey, but your father got a better job,” Linda said trying to sound apologetic.

“No, I can’t. I love Gerard and we are going to get married! I’m going to have his baby and we are going to live in a big castle!” Frank screamed as loud as his little voice could. Gerard had started to cry now too and held onto Franks hand tighter. Frank pulled Gerard away to his room and slammed his door shut. They both climbed into Frank’s bed and held each other until they had both calmed down. ”I’m not leaving with out you Gee, you’re my best friend!”

“You’re mine too Frankie. I don’t want you to go because I love you too much.”

Neither Frank nor Gerard knew really what real love was, they didn’t even know if what they felt for each other was called love. Gerard knew though that he wanted Frank to be his best friend for the rest of his life and him going away, Gerard wouldn’t have him for much longer.

“You know Gerard, I saw two people in a movie once push there lips together after they both said I love you,” Frank said as he turned to face Gerard better.

“Well, I saw one where they just got married then they did what you just said. My mommy said you only get married if you are in love, that’s why I wanted to marry you but my dad say that’s a different kind of love but I’m sure that I want to marry you,” Gerard said as he was positive about it. Frank nodded and sat up.

“How many kinds of love are there?” Frank asked a confused look on his face.

“I think he meant that I love you because you’re my friend and I do love you because you’re my friend, but then he said that only people that love each other sexually marry each other, but I didn’t know what he was talking about,” Gerard said, equally confused as Frank had been.

“Oh, I think he means like if they find each other pretty because when I was at the park a boy said to this girl that she was sexy,” Frank grinned as he had figured out what love it was.

“Well then, why do I want to marry you?” Gerard asked, still confused.

“Because you think I’m pretty, duh!” Frank laughed.

“You’re right Frankie, but you think I’m pretty too, right?”

“Of course I do Gerard, you are the only person in this world who is pretty, I think everyone else must be bummed out that you chose me to be your friend and not theirs!” Frank laughed and lay back down snuggling up to Gerard.

There was a long comfortable silence until Frank decided to break it.

“Can I put my lips on yours Gerard?” Frank asked because he knew that he loved Gerard a lot and not in the way that he loved his mom or dad but in the way Gerard and he had just figured out. Gerard nodded and sat up ready to put his puckered lips to Franks but Frank got off the bed.

“Where you going?” Gerard asked in confusion.
“We have to go to the park, we can easily slip past our mommies and daddies,” Frank said as he headed to his door. Gerard jumped up and followed quickly. They crawled out of the back door and ran through the gate till they reached the park. It was just how it was meant to be as the sun was just setting, exactly how Frank had wanted it to be. It casted a nice glow down on the too young children and they smiled at each other. It was perfect.

Frank and Gerard didn’t really know what to do in these situations so they copied what they saw from the T.V. Gerard giggled then put his lips on Franks. It was a little wet but soft and caring. No movement was made, it was a simple peck. Frank blushed and took Gerard’s hand as they went back to his home.

Frank had managed to convince his mother to let Gerard stay over that night as it was confirmed that the removal van would be there sometime the next day. Frank and Gerard spent an hour up in Frank’s room crying about it then decided to not think about it. Gerard didn’t want to spend his last night crying about it when they should be spending their time wisely.

It was only around 7pm when Gerard and Frank got into their pyjamas to be ready for bed when it turned 9. They sat quietly on the floor playing with Frank monster trucks, even though neither wanted to play.

“Frankie, you want to play something else?” Gerard asked throwing his monster truck to the side.

“Yeah, this is boring, got any ideas?” Frank asked also throwing his truck along with Gerard’s. Gerard didn’t answer, instead he stood up and went to Frank’s toy box and pulled out his baby doll. He passed the baby to Frank and grabbed his backpack. “What are we playing?”

“Mommies and Daddies, your mommy, I’m daddy. Now let’s pretend I’m coming home from a hard days work and you’ve made me our dinner, okay?” Frank nodded and Gerard left the room. Frank sat the baby down on a chair and got two others and set them around he’s drawing table with plastic plates and cups.

“Honey, I’m home!” Gerard shouted, laughing after wards.

“I made you your dinner, darling,” Frank said giving Gerard a hug.

“You know when my dad comes home from work he gives my mum a lip press,” Gerard said not letting Frank out of the hug. Frank giggled and pressed his lips to Gerard’s but they left it on longer than he did last time. Gerard grabbed Franks hand and laced their fingers together.

“I really like lip pressing with you Gerard,” Frank said against Gerard’s lips.

“Me too,” Gerard replied pulling away. “So, what’s for dinner?”

“Please Frankie, don’t go!” Gerard cried as Frank’s mom and dad tried to get Frank into the car to leave. Frank broke free from their grasp and ran straight into Gerard’s arms bawling. “Please don’t leave me Frankie, don’t leave me alone.” Hearing Gerard cry over him broke his heart, he wanted to make Gerard laugh and smile, not cry and hurt.

“I’m so sorry Gerard, I love you,” Frank cried still clinging on as much as he could to Gerard.

“I love you to!” Gerard cried then pressed his lips to Franks for the last time. Frank’s father saw the two younger boys kissing and was disgusted and outraged by his son. Yes, Anthony Iero was a homophobe, and seeing his only son kissing another guy sickened and shamed him. Anthony grabbed Frank’s arms and tore him away from Gerard as he kicked his feet and declared to be let go. Frank was pushed into the backseat and then he drove off, seeing Gerard waving growing smaller and smaller as he got further away.

Frank Iero had his life set. Now 19 years old and very popular with the other teens in his village. Frank was known as the bad ass and the leader of the pack, basically he was trouble. In England he was labelled a Chav, someone who walked around drinking and smoking, shouting abuse and wasting their lives away. Back in New Jersey he had been such a nice boy, but now he was nothing, he had nothing to look forward to in his future except maybe a few jail sentences. Frank’s favourite thing to do on the weekdays at 4pm was to go stand outside the art school and shout abuse at the students that were leaving for their flats that belonged to the school around the corner.

It was the beginning of a new year at the art school and this mean that Frank had new student to annoy and he was excited. As he and two of his other friends stood outside the school gates in their fake bling and trackie pants he saw the first few students leave the building signalling that it was the end of the day their. Every time a group of art freaks - as Frank liked to call them - came through the gate, Frank would throw scrunched up paper and shout things such as ‘go kill yourself’ and ‘fag’ or anything that had a swear word in.

A group of Goth looking kids came out of the gates and Frank threw his empty beer can at one of the girls heads and cheered when he hit her perfectly. As he was laughing and pointing at the girl one of her friends turned around and shouted at him.

“What the fuck man!” the boy shouted making Frank look up from where he had doubled over with laughter. His face changed instantly when he saw who was shouting at him and by the face the other boy pulled he recognised who Frank was too. “Frank?” Gerard said in a shocked tone. Frank stood up straight and felt his two other friends stand at either side of him.

“Gerard?” Frank asked, as if it was Gerard he had definitely changed.

“You know this freak?” one of Frank’s friends asked. Frank didn’t answer he just stared up at the boy he had once been in love with and had shared his first kiss with. Neither of them spoke until the friend on the right of Frank jabbed him in his side.

“No, I just thought he was someone I once knew,” Frank said turning around to his friends. Gerard was hurt, Frank pretending that he didn’t know him was the worse pain he had ever felt. For three years after Frank had left Gerard never made a friend as he didn’t want to replace Frank, nor did h ever get a girlfriend or boyfriend at all.

“Frank, you know who I am, you know back in Jersey, your best friend,” Gerard said now not caring that Frank had hurt his friend at all.

“Yeah, I remember you, by the way I’m not your best friend I was your best friend,” Frank said in a nasty voice.

“Why are you acting like this Frank, it’s not you,” Gerard said a little hope in his voice. Frank laughed at him are walked so he was inches away from Gerard’s face. Being that close to him reminded Frank of the kisses they had shared, and how after each one ended he wanted to do it all over again. Gerard had been the only guy that Frank had ever found attractive, Frank claimed to be straight, which he was and had been ever since he had left Jersey.

“Gerard, you don’t know me, people change you haven’t seen me for fucking 13 years. Don’t act like you know who I am, you know shit all,” Frank hissed through gritted teeth.

“I don’t see why you’re being a prick with me now Frank, I haven’t done shit all to you!” Gerard exclaimed getting even closer to Frank.

“Why don’t you go kill yourself, stupid Goth!” Frank spat then tried to walk away. He hadn’t wanted to say those nasty things to Gerard but he needed to for his reputation, he wasn’t going to ruin it for a one off meeting with his old best friend, his first and only love.

Frank tried to deny it, but now that he had seen Gerard again, he was letting feelings that he had throw to the back of his mind back out. To Frank, Gerard was still as good looking as he was when he was just a child, but he couldn’t act upon it anymore.

Frank watched Gerard shake his head and walk away with his head down and glossy eyes. The last thing Frank wanted was for Gerard to kill himself. Frank walked away in the opposite direction and wondered off home ignoring his friends that were shouting out for him.

The next few days had been hell for Frank, Gerard hadn’t left his mind once and it was beginning to give him a headache. Frank needed to get out of his house, he needed some fresh air. He got up and left without telling his mom and wonder out into the town shops. It was a Saturday and every where was over crowded which didn’t help with Franks headache at all. He decided to get himself a coffee, he seriously needed it. Stepping into the closest Starbucks he ordered a Latte and sat in the only seat left in the corner of the room. More people entered the shop and one of them was Gerard. He ordered his coffee and saw Frank sitting on his own and decided to join him, even if he had been a prick.

“Mind if I join you?” Gerard asked standing by the empty seat across from Frank.

“No,” Frank answered not even looking to see if he was correct about whether the voice belonged to Gerard.

“Why’d you say those things yesterday Frank?” Gerard asked, very forward. Frank sighed, even his voice was refreshing to hear.

“Because, I’m popular here and I wanted to keep my reputation up,” Frank said even ashamed of himself. “Sorry,” he whispered.

“It’s okay Frankie, I didn’t really believe that you wanted me to go and kill myself anyway,” Gerard said smiling a little. Frank smacked his hand to his head and groaned.

“I didn’t mean that, I’m sorry man. Hey, you called me Frankie, no one has ever called me that since the last time I saw you,” Frank pointed out smiling himself.

“The last time I saw you was when you were crying in my arms, right before your dad pulled you off me,” Gerard said looking into his cup of coffee.

“Yeah, he shouted at me for ages after we started to drive, for you know, kissing you,” Frank said blushing. “So why are you in England?” Frank asked quickly to save themselves from an awkward silence.

“Erm, I got into drawing when I was like 13 and fell in love with it. After I graduated high school I got a scholarship to come here to the art school,” Gerard said taking small sips at his coffee.

“Oh, I didn’t know you could draw, I’d like to see them sometime,” Frank said rattling his empty coffee cup and throwing it into the trash bin near to where he was sat.

“Well, you could come and see some now if you want, I live on my own so there is nobody there,” Gerard offered, standing up. Frank nodded and followed Gerard out of the shop and through the big crowds of people. Frank was finding it hard to see where Gerard was going and nearly lost him until Gerard grabbed his wrist and started to pull him along. Frank swallowed hard as Gerard’s hands wrapped around his wrist just made him want to lace their fingers together. He felt like it would be so right to do it, he had to have some confidence in himself, it was what he wanted and Frank always got what he wanted.

Frank slipped his hand up so that it fit in to Gerard’s hand perfectly. The contact felt good and he was glad that Gerard didn’t pull it away. When Frank looked up he saw Gerard looking at him through the corner of his eyes smiling. Frank copied his smile and let Gerard continue to pull him through the crowds until they reached a street that was empty as it lead off to the flats. Frank still didn’t let go of his hand as they wandered down deserted streets, but neither did Gerard. Only did the two boys let o was when Gerard unlocked his flat door and held it open for Frank to enter.

“Nice place,“ Frank commented and walked into the living area. Gerard followed him through and they both just looked at one another.

“You’ve changed a lot Frankie, you’re hair is longer and your face is more manly, “ Gerard laughed sitting down on his old couch.

“Thanks, you don’t look much different apart from you’ve grown a lot taller, your hair is a lot longer and your face is a lot more, erm, defined,” Frank said taking a seat next to Gerard, as close as he could get. Gerard looked over at Frank and hated that he had missed out on 13 years of his life, he had always said that they were going to be together forever. He needed to do something to show Frank he still wanted what he left behind, but he didn’t know what to do, should he just kiss him?

Frank placed his hand over Gerard’s and started to rub his thumb over his knuckles. “You know, I cried for days after I left, I was so upset about never getting to see you again, but my dreams came true and you’re here,” Frank said smiling as leant in to Gerard’s face. There was no hesitation from Gerard as he quickly leant in, eager to feel Frank’s lips again.

The kiss started off as just a press of the lips, just like the first one they had shared. Soon Frank started to move his lips more, massaging Gerard’s lips with his own. Gerard did the same back as he moved the hand that wasn’t being played with by Frank’s the back of Frank’s neck. Frank pushed harder and slipped his tongue out of his lips and across Gerard’s bottom lip. Immediately Gerard opened his mouth to let Frank in and enjoyed the feeling of his former best friends wet tongue roaming his mouth. Gerard put his tongue into action and wrapped it around Frank’s trying to taste him as much as possible. They both continued to kiss until the could no longer breathe then pulled away.

“You’re not going to leave me again are you Frankie?” Gerard asked in a small voice. Frank took Gerard’s hand in his and kissed his lips again.

“I wouldn’t be able to do it twice, the first time was painful enough,” Frank said letting Gerard pull him into his chest.

“Good because the day after you left in school when the teacher asked us what we wanted to do when we were older I told her ‘I don’t want to grow up’”
