In all honesty, my parents have really never seen any of my modeling shots.
My mom knows that I get my picture taken every so often, but not to what extent.
The fact is, I've been afraid that they'll think it's a bit too dark - and now I kinda feel
bad for keeping it from them.
Well, my mom is turning 60 on Sunday, so I've decided to make a scrapbook of
some of my modeling, drawings, and photography - basically anything less dark
that I could find. I'm doing the whole scrapbook crafty-thing, complete with color
patterned paper in the background...and well...it's turning out to be interesting,
to say the least. Maybe it'll be okay once it's finished. I hope so. I really wanted to
do something homemade since it's a big birthday for her and all.
In other news, my uncle that was in critical condition due to a heart attack had
surgery today. Yep, he's been in the hospital this whole time. The doctors
had tried everything this month - stints, heart balloons, you name it - and while
he's been in stable condition, his heart won't work on its own without fluid collecting
in his lungs.
This week, the doctors did more tests and found the culprit - a leaky valve. This is what
has caused all of the problems that he's had for the past several years. Monday, they gave
my uncle the straight news - either get the valve replaced, or die. Yeah, some choice.
Last night I called him to wish him good luck. It was a difficult conversation for me because
he sounded very scared. My uncle is a big, rowdy, strapping, farmer from Canada who loves
cars and hockey, so hearing his voice crack as he told me he loves me was just about too much
to bear. This morning he went into surgery at 8am and was out at 1pm. Everything was a success!
They put his circulatory system on bypass support, replaced his valve with one from a pig (believe me,
the jokes have already begun) - hooked everything back up to his heart, and then started his heart up
again - and it started on the first try. We were worried that his heart might not start back up again,
since that's the tricky part, but there were no problems. I'm incredibly relieved!
My uncle has a
CaringBridge account if you'd like to read it. (I know reading about someone's
relative sounds dumb, but some parts are actually quite uplifting.)
Anywho - busy long weekend ahead, and I need sleep!
G'nite!
