The Tale of 'ol Betsy

Oct 30, 2005 01:04

There was a cow named Betsy. Now this cow was no ordinary cow, Betsy was a cow that thought alot about things. Most cows would just act upon impulse thinking little of consequences. Not Betsy! One day Betsy came to a great case of stairs. At the top of these stairs was the most handsome bull she'd ever seen. Betsy mooed at the bull and the bull mooed back. The two really liked each other but they could not meet each other because cows can't go down stairs. Now Betsy had a huge decision to make, she knows that if she were to climb the stairs to meet this bull she could not get back down to where she had been all of her life! She had to make a commitment one way or another; if she climbed the stairs she would be with an outstanding bull and be happy with him for the rest of her life, if she stayed at the bottom of the stairs, then she would roam the pastures and be with ordinary bulls for the rest of her life. Staying where she was used to isn't a bad thing, Betsy had a great comfort in where she stood, she knew that she would be safe and would always know what would happen. The unknown territory at the top of the stairs presented a concept Betsy was not fond of: change. Betsy left the stairs and grazed in the fields, but returned the next day and saw that the bull was up there, waiting for her return. Betsy was willing to change if she knew for certain this bull was the one for her, so she left again. Betsy this time returns in two days. She had to make a commitment one way or another; if she climbed the stairs she would be with an outstanding bull and be happy with him for the rest of her life, if she stayed at the bottom of the stairs, then she would roam the pastures and be with ordinary bulls for the rest of her life. Staying where she was used to isn't a bad thing, Betsy had a great comfort in where she stood, she knew that she would be safe and would always know what would happen. ater, and sure enough the handsome bull is there waiting for her and bucks out of happiness when he sees her. Betsy is thrilled, but just can't make herself climb those stairs. Betsy lets out an apologetic moo and wanders off to graze. The bull watches her as she trodded off into the distance, hurt that she can't come join him. The bull edged towards the stairs, putting one leg down, then another. When the bull tried to put his hind leg down on the first step he begins to shake and lose his balance so he scuttles back to the top and lets out a loud cry. Betsy is just in range of this cry and turns around. Betsy sees that the bull can't stand to be without her and is faced with the decision once and for all: does she want to leave her comfort zone and leave everything she knows behind? Betsy came to the edge of the stairs and began to ascend, however when she gets half way up she begins to have second thoughts. Now the only way Betsy can get down is if she jumps off the side, and there is no guarantee she will make it. In the sky there is a flashing light, this light is a meteor. It shatters the staircase just ahead of Betsy, not allowing her to get to the bull. Now Betsy cannot go up or down, she is stuck in the middle to forever think about what could have been...

(and yes this random story is original, in other words written by me, lol)
