Google Android project uses code from Apache Harmony

Nov 13, 2007 00:13

I've just learned about Google Android platform. It is going to be a platform for mobile devices, possibly the widely discussed across the internet so called G-Phone.

The platform is Java and Linux based. It appears that applications are going to be written in Java, but not in J2ME as it is usually done currently. Google apparently took quite a big part of J2SE into its platform, bundled in some of independent API packages like junit, and added its own proprietary packages.

The code for core J2SE API is taken from Apache Harmony project, complete list of packages is available here mentioned on the Harmony mail list.

Stefano wrote a lot more details about Apache Harmony and Google Android in his blog here. Read it if you are interested.
