Now that Pat and I definitely have more than enough money to live from, we both want to donate to charity. However, we find that it is hard to pick one (or two, or three, or...). Health, people, the environment... there's so many to choose from.
So, out of curiousity: which charities do/would you donate money to?

This year we donated to ICT4Kids -- students of the university here in Nijmegen go to South Africa and support the poor population with their IT knowledge. That translates into a better chance on a (better) job.
Micro-credits for women is also a very good one: more economic power for women translates into schooling for girls, fewer children and better circumstances for children and women in general.

You certainly strike me as the kind of guy who would.
I do wonder about micro-credits. Empowering women is always good, also because I think they tend to be the ones managing the families. However, with all the publicity it's gotten, I wonder if it's maybe 'hyped' too much.

Btw, I don't mean it like a "convince me that I should give to your charity"-sorta way. I'm gonna make my own mind up for my own reasons.
It's just that I am in general interested in what motivates people.

I donate to Amnesty because I care a lot about human rights, and Amnesty is the obvious charity for that. What I like about them is that they fight for the rights of all humans, including those of people that public opinion is quick to condemn.
I give to KWF because I know people who have had cancer, particularly my grandmother who had breast cancer. I think research in this area is very important. Also, I signed up on the street and got to shoot a paintball cannon. :D
