Got called in to see a patient yesterday with the shakes - the "haven't had a drink since I was admitted to the hospital a week ago" kind of shakes. So we checked the record - he told the docs on admission that he drank maybe 3 drinks a week. Pity he didn't tell us the real amount before he started seeing spiders on the wall (literally).
And of course this morning when he's totally delirious because the meds take time to work... his family is upset and worried (totally understandable) and mad at us (slightly less so). I mean, since when is it my fault when someone is dishonest to the folks responsible for keeping them healthy? Bah humbug. I'd rather have honesty than "yes, doctor, I'm a model patient," particularly when someone's health and perhaps life is on the line. Yet people lie to us constantly... yes, I took all the medication, no I didn't use cocaine, etc. Frustrating.
In other news, I have stripy sock yarn in the mail on its way here. Pretty colors!
Cochineal and
Tyrian Purple from
KnitPicks. I'm a happy addict, but for one thing: 5-14 day shipping time! Maybe if I camp out in front of the mailbox with my needles...
On second thought, I think I'll sit by the window with the
current project and my cardiology book and watch the thunderstorm roll through the city. Smells like wet.
