Christmas with the family and a love letter to Matt Smith's face.

I'm back! Sort of. It's definitely going to be a busy few days of holiday shenanigans with friends and family, but I'll at least occasionally be checking in.

O'ahu was awesome, as usual. I actually got to hang out with Maile, which, oh my god, it's been a few years. And I got to spend some time with Jen and Adam and Tommy, too, and stay up to 3 a.m. drinking Scotch and losing all my money at poker. So that was fun.

Mostly I hung out with family a lot and ate alarming amounts of food and set some stuff on fire (okay, mostly just wood, in a fireplace...and candles) and opened presents, and I bonded with an adorable teenager over Doctor Who and other nerdy things. And there was, of course, the requisite afternoon of hanging out in Pauoa with the Nerf arsenal shooting range and ping pong tournament (I think I've established myself fairly securely as the worst ping pong player in the family, although I didn't get a chance to prove myself against Nova). Aside from all of that it was a lot of quietly lounging around Granny's house, reading National Geographic and writing.

Also IT'S ACTUALLY BEEN SUNNY, HOLY CRAP. IT'S LIKE A CHRISTMAS MIRACLE.

Last night Mom and I got home in time to have a light dinner and open presents with Alex (the bro, not the bf... this is just always going to be awkward) and Nova. I ended up with SO MUCH FOOD I can't even (mostly candy), and Alex and Nova got me a new camera, because they love me. I also opened the packages from look_alive and platoapproved... platoapproved sent me lollipops and Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro and a mix CD I haven't had time to listen to yet and a whole pile of Batman swag- tiny notepads! Bat symbol bracelets! foam Batarangs!- because she loves me, and look_alive sent me OMG AMAZING DELICIOUS homemade caramel and toffee and a whole pile of Trader Joe's swag (LEMUR TEEEEEEEAAAA~!! :D) and a Patrick Stump tuxedo shirt, because omg she loves me.

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE~!!

Oh and I watched the Doctor Who Christmas episode last night. I was going to flail about it immediately, but there was a random blackout at, like, one in the morning that cut off my wireless signal, so I was forced to go to sleep, woe. Squee and spoilers under the cut.

...Okay, so honestly I thought it was mostly pretty silly and a bit sub-par, as the Christmas specials usually tend to be, but there were some things.

-Opening shot is an homage to both Star Wars and Space Balls, yes? I lol'd.

-Hahahahahaha they reused the spinning killer Christmas tree! XD

-Okay amusing stuff out of the way, DOCTOR, YOU PRECIOUS ADORABLE THING, look at him playing Santa, fixing up that house all magical and wonderful and Christmasy, because their mother was nice to you once and they don't know it yet but they've lost their dad and you want to make them happy and there is literally nothing else you'd rather be doing. ♥♥♥♥♥ Oh Doctor, you are the best egg, even if you did make a bit of a mess of things, it got a bit clinchy in the middle there but it sort of worked out in the end, STORY OF HIS LIFE. ♥ ...The more I think about it the more I think that not only is Santa Claus a Time Lord, he really is just the Doctor, I mean, can't you just see the Doctor every time he gets to feeling a little down and needing some cheering up picking a Christmas at random and flying around in the TARDIS delivering presents and peeking in windows to see kids' happy smiles? (Regardless, if I ever have kids, the moment they start questioning Santa Claus I'm whipping out my Time Lord and/or Doctor theory on them, let's see them refute that.) ...Anyway THAT HOUSE IS COOL, I WANT THAT HOUSE.

-Also, MADGE IS A BADASS. ♥♥♥

-Really what this episode is all about, though, as usual, is OH MY GOD MATT SMITH'S FACE. TT_TT I mean, a little bit that scene where he straightens his tie all pleased with himself and Madge and the way things turned out, and his faaaaaaace as he stands there watching them hug and cry happy tears, humany-wumany, and then his faaaaaaace when he watches them from the shadows while they have family present time and then he starts to sneak away so he can have some quiet lonely Time Lord ANGST, and his faaaaaaace when he's talking to Madge and he's got no family and he can't see his friends, and his faaaaaaaaace when Madge pulls the Mom card on him and he gets all pouty (and btw MADGE I LOVE YOU).

-But more than any of that, HIS FACE, HIS FAAAAAAAAAAAAACE, his face when he's standing on the Ponds' doorstep, and his face when he starts smiling because omg it's Amelia and he's happy to see her, BUT MOSTLY HIS FACE when she says, "Ohhh because we always do," and "It's Christmas, you moron," HIS FACE as he stands there overcome with the notion that holy crap he has a family now, the Ponds and River, they're his family, his real family, and he'll always have that and they'll always set a place for him at Christmas and a;hgsalhfksjflshlagskfs THE DOCTOR HAS A FAMILY AND MATT SMITH'S FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACE!!

-And while we're at it, Amy Pond's stern DOCTOR YOU'RE AN IDIOT AND I'M CROSS WITH YOU, NOW GO SIT IN A CORNER AND THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU'VE DONE face. ♥♥♥

-Let us also take a moment to also acknowledge the Ponds' beautiful TARDIS-blue door. ♥

-...MATT SMITH'S FACE! TT_TT
