... and then it started raining!

Uch. Got a bad haircut last week. It was clear within the first five minutes that the woman cutting my hair not only didn't know how to cut curly hair, but she didn't know how to cut hair at all. I now have a somewhat um... square haircut that makes my very fine curls splay out into what looks like a frizzled bad perm. Uch.

But, on the other hand, I have a new perfume, 1962, and I smell wonderful. It took me awhile to figure out what the dominant notes were, but in the end they must be balsam and ylang-ylang. Oh and today we got a package of perfume samples from majea! Woot! You'll be happy to know, majea that nothing broke in transit. I've sampled and parcelled out according to each klutz's stated perfumical preference.

Does anyone have a good recipe for making Cumberland sausage? I just spoke with my butcher about his lack of English sausage, to which he replied that he'd be happy to make it if someone would bring in a recipe for it. He said he's got an English guy who keeps coming in requesting it, but that the same guy still hasn't brought him a recipe. Look, y'all got me started on it with your lovely breakfasts and pub food in the UK, the least you can do is help me get it started here.

On the theme of cooking, I am so looking forward to this. Of course, I'll see anything that La Streep is in, but to have her playing Julia? I can't wait. Some of you will recall my reaction to Trash bringing home an autographed copy of one of her cookbooks: "Julia Child touched this book! Julia Child touched this book! Julia Child touched this book! Julia Child touched this book!"

In other news, Rachel Getting Married was a terrible film filled with awful people that I can't believe was in the top ten lists of so many people this past year. Aside from it being awful, it was yet another examination of how drug addiction and lack of communication can tear a rich family apart, oh the rich, they're just like us. Nothing new here, move along. Damn. Also, I found Rachel's appropriation of Indian dress and culture as the theme of her wedding to be incredibly offensive.

For something not awful to watch, this past weekend tx_cronopio recommended this interview with David Simon, author of Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets and the writer of "The Wire," "Homicide: Life on the Streets," "The Corner," and the upcoming "Treme." Definitely well worth watching.
