I am really, really regretting not starting with the law route when I first started playing the game.
It wouldn't have made it any less skeevy, but at least then it would be over with and my feelings about Mastema would have been on the level of mere strong dislike, rather than the abject loathing I feel for the character right now. I swear, he gets less and less tolerable with each pass through the game, and it is painful (if understandable, given everything she's been through in the Schwarzvelt) watching Zelenin latch onto him. To make matters worse, I just entered Grus (again) which means I get to watch her throw away her humanity for someone who, per the chaos route, sees her only as a pawn. I have actually found myself getting cross at Zelenin at various story points, and that really isn't fair.
I am also having difficulty mustering any desire to have angel!Zelenin pacify the demons in Grus with her song, because it's so damned creepy and because I don't want to see Jimenez's reaction, which is kind of stupid because I am going law route and I'm going to have to fight him anyway, and also he's not real. I mean, I managed to kill the remaining members of Jack Squad on the chaos route, which was bad enough, but... I don't know. I foresee a lot of extraneous level-grinding and exploration while I try to figure out what to do. I may end up doing another quick pass through the game on neutral alignment just to get the taaste out of my mouth. In the meantime, I've managed to get every accomplishment except for the two that require me to be on the law route.
(All this is bringing to mind that one poster I've seen on various online fora who tends to rail against Megaten's bias against law, which isn't helping.)
On the plus side, I am in Grus, which means I can do the Demiurge fight at some point and thus unlock the Sub App that maps dark areas. Thankfully.
In other news, I managed to charm Tiamat when I fought her this time, which probably shouldn't surprise me since I managed to charm Mem Aleph during my first run through the game, and she's only the final boss for the law/neutral routes, but still managed to surprise me nonetheless. Charm is really broken in this game, isn't it? (For anyone who hasn't played the game, Tiamat is a sector end boss, and one would not normally expect to be able to charm those.)
My protagonist has a luck-based suit this time around. Most of his stat increases seem to be going into luck and strength thus far, with vitality in particular lagging way behind. It's still lopsided, like my last game, but at least the stat increases are mostly targeting the right stat this time.
