Disgaea: "Booyah"?

Nov 01, 2008 00:10

I have completely failed at productivity for the last couple of days, because I've been reading the Let's Play of Soul Nomad and the World Eaters, which is possibly one of NISA's darkest games, and I'm including the game where the worst ending involves a character eating his siblings. (And this is just the normal version of Soul Nomad; the optional Demon Campaign is evidently much, much, MUCH worse.)

In the meantime, I've been slowly working on Disgaea, by which I mean dithering around in the Item Worlds rather than getting on with Episode 2.

I did manage to finish Episode 1, at least. Mind, I was horribly overlevelled, so Mid-Boss wasn't exactly a challenge, but hey. And then I got to watch Flonne's introductory scene, followed by the most polite assassination "attempt" ever. Flonne is clearly not cut out for this sort of thing.

There is now a phone in Laharl's bedroom for calling alternate netherworlds. I think I'm going to hold off on that.

I also found Etna's secret room, where you can read her diary. If you do this in the PSP version, you can apparently unlock an easier version of Etna's Story (as in, enemies actually start at level 1 instead of level 60-something). I'm assuming this was retained for the DS, but I don't know for sure.

I've unlocked some more humanoid classes and, thanks to the Item World, some of the monsters. Most of my current units have unlocked at least their second class tier, although the female healer is the only one I've actually transmigrated. The male healer has even unlocked his third tier. (He's one of my gun wielders, so he's getting more use than the female healer and her bow.) I haven't yet created any Rune/Magic Knight, Ronin, Ninja, or Archer characters yet; I still need to figure out who should create them and what I should name them. My male healer may get some of the monsters. I'm thinking of giving him a Winged, at least.

I was not expecting thieves to be male. They're female in Disgaea 2, and very... squeaky. So suddenly having a male thief running around screaming things like "BOOYAH!!!" and "SHA-ZAM!!!!" is just a little weird. At least he's hardier than Cid the Scout. Barely.

So far, Laharl has a male warrior, male brawler, female healer, and Cid the scout as pupils. The healer has a red mage as a pupil. Weirdly, Laharl learned the red mage's spells from the healer. I don't think it worked that way in Disgaea 2. Etna, meanwhile, has a female warrior, female brawler, male healer, and thief, none of whom have pupils yet. Flonne will probably wind up with at least one mage/skull, but aside from that I'm not sure.

So basically I haven't gotten much done. Subdued some specialists, though. Go me, or something.

Next up: Probably bribing the Demon Assembly some more with the items I've cleared out.
