One of those days...

Ever have one of those days?
I woke up feeling like I’d like to sleep more - typical morning feeling. Nothing strange happened while I brushed my teeth. Put some water on. Let the chickens out (three eggs). Put some corn out for the 10-15 deer that come around begging. None of these things are exactly typical morning things for me personally. My family has been away since Monday, hence the zoo keeping. And when I’m in Montauk I usually have to make my own hot beverages (tragic!). Still, nothing wakes you up like a walk down the hill. Made myself coffee. Hektor settled on my lap as I picked up my cell to call Scott. Damn, he forgot to plug his phone in. Picked up a catalog to leaf through as I sip my coffee. My watery coffee…. Here is where things start to break down. Phone rings-maybe it’s Scott. Nope, it’s Mom. “Hi mom, how’s it going? Btw, when exactly are you getting in tonight.” “Oh hi honey, we’re at the airport now, we might be home at 5.” “Oh great…” (Mental dialogue, “Oh my god, I thought they weren’t coming back until late tonight!!”) “…I’ll see you soon then!” (Mental dialogue, “Ahhhh!”) Hang up the phone. Realize that I have not had breakfast, have not showered, and have not gotten dressed. Realize that I was planning to do that last load of laundry, sweep the kitchen, wash the dishes, and clean the counters tonight, before my parents got home. Realize that “tonight, before my parents get home” just changed from 10pm to 5pm, which is about the time I usually get home from work. OMG! Mornings are not the appropriate time to have to expend this kind of energy. So now I’m running late and still haven’t had breakfast. Throw some fruit and yogurt into a container, grab my coffee cup (will make “real” coffee at work), fill my water bottle and put all these things in a bag. Take out the recycling, put the bag of laundry in my car, and try to make it to work while it is still morning. Get to work. Discover that the container with my mango/yogurt mixture was not secure. Now half my lunch is covering my water bottle. Also the plastic bag leaks. Nothing like little drops over mango flavored yogurt goodness on your car and freshly washed sweater.
