....but I'm not. Bad Jes, bad! One of the problems of living with one's parents is the lack of space. For example, we don't have a closet. There is a closet in this room, but it is still filled with my mom's stuff. I probably should remind her about that, actually. Anyway, post Christmas we've acquired a few new items that will be very useful when we're on our own but need to be stored until then. Where to put them? I actually had all the presents we'd gotten displayed on our desk for a while--what better way to appreciate them and remember what you have received. However there is only so long you can do that before it becomes ridiculous. Now it's time to put away the Christmas decorations (except half of them are still at Scott's parents stored away and now I have half here--blah!). The various kitchen stuff also should be stored. We've actually been talking about renting one of those storage places and moving everything there. That way Scott's parents can rent their basement. But that costs $$, which we are short of (especially after the holidays).
My friend Renee and I decided a while ago that we need a business that helps people sort through their stuff. The business would need a giant warehouse with lots of long tables and a couple of moving trucks. We'd come to a person's house and take everything out--everything. It would be laid out in the warehouse and the owners would come and decide what they wanted to keep and what to get rid of. (This would be a good time for them to get their carpets cleaned, walls repainted, etc.) Then everything would be moved back. Our movers would put the furniture back and we'd have boxed stuff according to the owners instructions, but they'd have to put away most of the little stuff. This would help them not keep as much. For people like us (i.e. people without a whole house's worth of stuff), you would only rent them the warehouse and maybe the professional organizers (not the movers and trucks--we planned those for our parents ;). Stuff that people didn't want would be cleaned up and sent to Goodwill, etc. (which should leave our business with a lot of tax write offs) or the people could take stuff to Ebay stores, yardsales, or whatever (we'd stay out of that part). It would even be great if you were moving since it would allow you to sort through everything and pack it in a logical fashion.
I absolutely hate how you always end up with a couple of completely mixed boxes. So you can never unpack just the kitchen stuff because you're always missing stuff. Plus even though you meant to label each and every box, somehow in the rush certain boxes didn't get labeled. For us it is even worse, because we packed away most of our stuff, but still brought a bunch of stuff to the farm. So all that stuff is packed differently. Plus now whatever new stuff we've acquired. I would *love* to be able to spread it all out and repack it. But that is my anal side talking.
Is it sick that I fantasize about empty warehouses filled with long, empty tables and clean, unmarked boxes waiting to be filled? Yes.
