I wrote up this nice list of books before I brought them back to the library and now I've lost the list. But here's a go:
By Patricia A. McKillip both "Winter Rose" and "Song for the Basilisk" (I tend to follow author's I like). Both were excellent. Her writing style reminds me of Hillary--full of interesting detail and descriptions that are perhaps a bit mad (but in a good, sort of poetic way).
By Laurell K. Hamilton "Guilty Pleasures", "The Lunatic Cafe", "Circus of the Damned" and "Strange Candy". The first three are part of the Anita Blade Vampire Hunter series, the last a book of short stories. I really enjoy them in a junk food sort of way. Definitely quick reads but a lot of fun.
By Mercedes Lackey, "Exile's Honor" and "Exile's Valor". I had read a bit of Ms. Lackey before, a while back, and these were in the same world. I would say she is one of the fantasy authors a person should know if they claim to know fantasy.
Speaking of which, I finally read some Terry Brooks, "The First king of Shannara" to be exact. I found it hard to get into (I have tried to read a book by him before without much success.) I am beginning to wonder if I'm starting to favor female authors. Or maybe it's just him.
By Sarah Micklem a book called "Firethorn". It was very different. I think I liked it. Then again, I'm not sure I did. In many ways it felt more "real" than a lot of books I read. I think I generally prefer a bit more fantasy in my fantasy.
By Jacqueline Carey the book "Godslayer" which in the sequel to "Banewreck". She is becoming one of my favorite author. This series was very different than her Kushiel books. I like both a lot.
I think that's it for my recent reading. Like I said, I lost the list. Any awesome books that I just have to read?
