I Heart Karma

So, okay. Everyone knows how much my old, evil job drove me insane. My shiny new job is wonderful and lovely, but I keep in touch with people from the old jailyard.

So. I get an email this morning from my former supervisor, who totally rocked, and find out that -- there's a bloodbath going on! The first victim? Sherri, one of the EVILEST of all evil managers. This is the woman who singlehandedly drove out two of our reporters -- leaving the newsroom lily-white, I should add -- who never, ever had a clue what was going on. Seriously, this woman couldn't have told you how to run the frigging software we used, much less actually write anything. She was supposed to be a managing editor, but she'd send me stuff for the website and it was so full of errors that I had to re-edit it myself. She took crazy long lunches, left to get her hair done for hours on end and frankly -- she was just vastly unpleasant. (My friend Eugene and I used to call her 'Satan's Handmaiden' or the AntiChrist, so ya know...)

So anyway, she was fired yesterday. No warning, no nothing. Usually, my old manager would get some kind of heads up, being management and all. But no one had any warning, they just got called into a meeting and told she'd been let go. Her position was eliminated, they said. And bubye Sherri.

Gannett is doing this whole centralization thing with advertising and stuff, moving all their Louisiana stuff to Lafayette. Which means all the ad people are losing their jobs. And apparently, they decided to eliminate the managing editor position too. Because editors have so much to do with advertising. (If ya don't know, they have ZERO to do with it. The two departments are totally, completely separate.) So you know. Karma and whatnot.

So now they're taking bets on who is next in the blood letting. I know who MY money would be on, but ya know ;) I now get to just watch happily from the sidelines and be smugly amused about the whole thing.
