A short that might or might not become part of a collection of connected shorts (I still haven't decided)
Summary: A prediction (hope) of what could happen at the end of episode 4.
“Well Doc, I have to hand it to you, when you want someone to notice you, you really go all out.” He says while holding her up and opening her door. “You just can’t hold your licour, though.”
“I don’t wanna talk about it” She grunts when he drops her on her bed. “I just wanna forget this whole night ever happened.” She falls back and covers her face with one her pillows.
“Yeah, I got that from the unusually quiet ride here. I don’t think I ever saw you not yapping away for so long.” He smirks and starts working on taking the torture devices she calls shoes off her tiny little feet. “You know, other than when you’re asleep. And even then, you talk in your sleep.” Another grunt from her is his only answer. “Drool a little too”
“Wade” She says in a warning voice.
“What, I’m just being honest, Doc.” He finally gets her shoes off and sits on the bed with her feet on his lap. One hand goes to one of her ankles and he starts to massage it slowly. He heard her complain about her shoes hurting her ankles enough to known that those heels she had on had to be killing her ankles. “What I don’t understand is why you went through with all that. What the hell were you doing with Zach, and at the Rammer Yammer? And the drinking and what the hell was that all about? Because I know you could care less about Zach.” He suddenly stopped massaging her ankles. “Right?”
“I saw you”
“You saw me?”
“With the blonde and the stupid sock in your doorknob”
“Wait, the white one with the little blue line on top. I’ve been looking for that sucker for weeks. I thought the dryer ate it.”
“Wade…” She said exasperated and threw one her pillows at him.
“It was Tansy and we was just talkin’” he continued in a softer voice, “and I wouldn’t do anything like that to either of you. I’m not that much of a jerk” His hands were now on her calves, going back and forth between her knees to her ankles. “Besides, I thought we had an agreement.”
“I know, no strings.” She sat up and pulled her legs away from his hands. She couldn’t think when he touched her. “I know what we said, and I tried to be more casual. But I’m not a casual person, Wade.” She took a big breath and sat there hugging a pillow and tried to prepare herself for the possibly most vulnerable moment of her life. She was going to open up to Wade Kinsella and hope the fall didn’t hurt too much. He was the one that was always telling her to be honest about herself, and she was going to give it a go. “You drive me crazy. Half of the time I wanna throw you into the creek or punch you in the nose, but I still want to know about your day, even if it has to do with your stupid car or video games or your taste in movies. And I wanna tell you about my day and my shoes and whatever new crazy thing is going on in Bluebell. And I don’t want to ever feel how I felt when I saw you with her or how I felt tonight.”
“Zoe, I thought you understood our agreement. That we-”
“I’m sorry if it is not what you want, but I want, no, I need strings. There I said it. Take it or leave it.”
He raised a hand and pushed back some loose strands of dark hair that had fallen over her face. “What I was trying to say is that I thought you knew we agreed that it would be just us. Just you and me, Doc. I thought that was our unspoken agreement.”
“That’s what I told Ruby, but then she said all these things and then I jus-
“First of all, don’t listen to Ruby. What the hell does she know about us?” He took her face on his hands and pulled her closer. “And just in case you didn’t notice: I hate the idea of you being with anyone else. And I don’t wanna be with anyone else. Well, unless it is like Princess Leia or something. Then all bets are off”
She rolled her eye at that “Really, Star Wars, Wade”
“What, I happen to like the classics and Han Solo is awesome”
“I’m being serious here, Wade.”
“What? So am I. You want strings? You got them, Doc.” He kissed softly on the mouth. “But for the record, my car is not stupid.” He kissed her again and she smiled into the kiss. “It’s a classic. It’s a freakin’ work of art, Doc, and as my girlfriend it is your job to wash it.”
“My job?”
“In a tiny itsy bitsy bikini.” He grabbed the pillow that she was hugging and threw it across the room before pulling her closer. He kissed her like he wanted to erase the memory of any other kiss she ever had before. It consumed her. “I think I am going to enjoy this being a boyfriend thing.”
“Oh?”
“I get to kiss you anytime I want.”
She pulled him back a little “I knew it! I knew I saw the DVD of Sweet Home Alabama under your bed the other night. You told me I was crazy!”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about, Doc.” He started kissing his way down her throat, giving a small bite here and there, eliciting a pleasured moan from her. “Do you really want to continue talkin’? 'Cause I can think of other, more pleasant, things to do at the moment.” He gave her a smile when she expressed her agreement by helping him out of his shirt.
“This conversation is not over. I’m just postponing it.”
“Mmmhhmm” Soon her dress joined his shirt on the floor and there wasn’t much talking for a long while.
