If we, citizens, do not support our artists, then we sacrifice our imagination on the altar of crude reality and we end up believing in nothing and having worthless dreams.
-- Yann Martel, Life of Pi
So quiet.
It is painfully quiet.
We dip our faces into the pond of light,
hands vibrating,
releasing dusky powder to the air
as they cling to a fleeting moment
a photograph
heads and shoulders escaping the lens
as if chopped off by the guillotine,
the only humaine service left for us
just go, go, go
if in that moment we caught by the edges
the subtle underlay of colours
like soft brown moths flurrying to the light
we are all searching
running, go, go, go
past the cool cheek of night
arms open to impede our flight.
But can she turn it again?
