The Joys of Home Ownership

Pulte (who built my condo) has finally determined that the bamboo floors throughout the building were installed incorrectly and that it is their fault. There are sizable gaps between the boards that catch all manner of lovely things, like cat litter and spilled food and whatnot. This isn't normal at all - there shouldn't be any gaps between floorboards on a wooden floor!

The concrete had residual moisture in it when they put down the floor. It was Pulte's first time building a concrete/steal building and they didn't let the concrete cure long enough. Which means they will be replacing the floors throughout the building - I will be inspected again (for the 4th time) "soon", and at some point after that I will be kicked out of my own house for 2 weeks and sent to the local extended stay america, as will my current tenant. I assume this will actually happen sometime between January and March.

Sure the company will pay for the work, the hotel and give me an allowance for food. And at the end of it, I will have a properly installed wooden floor with no gaps. But I have to move all my valuables and electronics out of the house and I am essentially not allowed into my own house for at least 2 weeks. And I can't really charge my roommate rent while he's stuck in a hotel. And the cats have to go somewhere besides the hotel for that time period.

Ah, the joy.
