My Children
My children are poisoning me.
What a dreadful thought! They try, I know, but the energy they bring me does not-cannot sustain. Doom Tree, indeed! What my children need-what I need… No matter. They no longer know. My poor orphans… They know only loneliness and pain. And so they bring me misery, which kills as surely as starvation.
Perhaps it would have been better if I had never brought them into this world… They bring so much horror. Yet… They are my children. I may yet reach them. For a pair so young… It cannot be too late.

lady_saraiDisclaimer: Narnia belongs to the Lewis estate. And also to whatever studio bought the movie rights. And the BBC. Clearly, with all of these owners, it does not need another one - me. So I don't own Narnia. Or Peter. Just playing. No sueing.
Purpose
I remember when Lucy was born. I remember how tiny she looked, how fragile, wrapped in her soft pink blanket. I was terrified when Father put her into my arms, so certain that I would drop her, that I would do everything all wrong, and that she would cry. Instead, she looked up at me with the cloudy blue eyes of a newborn, eyes that would soon darken to a warm brown, and we just stared at each other.
I think I fell in love that day. She was so tiny, so perfect, so trusting. Staring into her eyes, Lucy and I got to know one another for the first time. Big brother. Baby sister. Dimly, I heard Father telling me that this was Lucy, my new baby sister, and that, as the oldest, it was my job to look after her and the others. He might as well have told me that as a living human being, it was my duty to continue to breathe air. I had never known my job, my purpose, more deeply than I did at that moment. I was the oldest. I had to protect them-Susan, Edmund, and especially this tiny bundle of blankets in my lap. Lucy.
I gaze out over my assembled forces. It is the eve of battle, and the Narnians cannot be any more prepared than they are now. The plans have been drawn, discussed, and agreed upon. Susan, Edmund, and Lucy each know their positions. Everything is ready, and yet… There is a nagging feeling. Somehow, I don’t think this is what Father had in mind.

arnica. I did not plan to write this. It surprises even me. THAT WHORE does not die, and is not maimed.
Disclaimer: X-Men belongs to Marvel Comics. THANK GOD. I would never have done what they did.
I Won
It’s strange. No matter which direction I pick on my way out of the mansion, I always end up here. Call it perspective. Sometimes, when everything is too much-Scott, my position as co-headmistress, the loss of my girls-I need to come here. To remind myself that I won.
Did you hear that, Jean? I won. After everything we’ve put each other through, all the mind-fucking, the manipulation, I won. I got the job, I got the guy. You’re the one in the ground. And if Rachel calls me “That Whore,” and Scott is reminded too often of you-so what? And maybe I’m a little jealous of a dead woman sometimes-who cares? This time… I won. So you can go to Hell.

A Good Day
It’s a good day. They’re coming more and more often now. Roger is curled up on the window ledge with his coffee, staring outside. He looks up and me and smiles as I hand him a glass of juice and his medicines. Without a word, I take a seat near him on the ledge. He glances over at me.
“Winter’s coming.” He gestures to the window’s morning frost.
I nod. “Yeah. Collins said he’d come home for a while, when MIT goes on break.”
Roger smiles again. “It’ll be nice to see him. I’ve missed him.”
It’s a good day.

What Angel Had
I’d be happy to die for a taste of what Angel had…
I stare up at the ceiling of Joanne’s… Our bedroom. I can’t get her words out of my mind. I still see her, standing in the cemetery, looking at me as though I’ve betrayed her. Maybe I have.
I shake my head, rolling over. This is ridiculous. I haven’t done anything wrong. I’m just… Me. So, I’m a little flirty. Whatever. She knew that before we got into this. That’s how we met for God’s sake. I was being flirty. She responded. Does she expect me to change just because we’re together? That’s bullshit.
But… I keep seeing her face. The hurt at the cemetery. At the Clit Club. At the Life Café. When she came home and found me having coffee with Jill from one of the other penthouses. Someone to live for… Unafraid to say I love you! I wonder, suddenly, if I ever remembered to apologize.
Of course, I didn’t. Maureen Johnson does not apologize.
And yet… I’d be happy to die for a taste of what Angel had… Her words still echo in my head, and all I can see is despair written in every line of her face. My fault.
I roll back to face her, and trace my hand over the side of her face.
“Joanne?”
She grunts slightly. I know she’s not really awake. Maybe it will be easier this way.
“Joanne… I’m sorry.”
In her sleep, she smiles.
