[ people did when... actually you know what let's not even go there. shirou isn't entirely sure what he just observed, but he does know that it upsets him! it's hard to make anything out of the situation, but it seems clear there was at least a fight... and while the result seems obvious, he still harbors some hope that maybe gokudera is alright.

alternatively i could have gone into a long monologue about a certain fire but i decided to forego that as well despite how ic it would have been. ]

[ with his solid bitch not being here yet, i'm going to assume he found some way to use his ghostly powers to rattle some chains and drop a rock on the 'answer' button.

no, he's not alright, the flames on his body had finally gone out the hour later after he had died, but that's hardly of his concern. he's not in his body, he's translucent and pale and there are sick, gruesome burns all over his arms, hands, face, any part showing skin. ]

[ it's not particularly easy to tell who this person is at first, and it's definitely not an easy sight to take in. yet at the same time, he can't allow himself to look away either. it's obvious enough what happened to him but... why? how? no matter what, shirou has to find these things out. he can't just let someone get away with doing this to another human being. ]

Gokudera...? [ but when his voice finally comes out, it's a bit weak too. the disbelief is still quite clear in his tone; it didn't happen to just anyone, but someone he actually knows. ]

[ he's not alive. there's no need for breathing, speaking takes no effort. when he does, it's a ghostly sound, almost like the words exist without being spoken at all.

he doesn't let the feed (positioned in a rather awkward way, as he can't re-position the camera itself) catch his eyes, he's looking away in embarrassment, in shame. he let that happen to himself, and above all, in a place where people could see it and worry. ]

Gokudera? [He knows that voice. He's been on the receiving end of his fair share of arguments with it in the last decade, after all. So he'd know it anywhere, really. It's actually what catches his attention and makes him tune into the feed. Just in time to hear the scream.

He forgets how to breathe in that second, the terror and fear that grips him moving like ice through his veins. Not again. Not here too. Not him too.]

GOKUDERA!! God, Gokudera where are you?! Tell me now, I'm coming. I'll be there in a second.

[He nearly crushes the device in his hands as he shakes it, riveted in place and wanting to run to wherever his friend is, to help him, save him. He feels so helpless right then, watching his friend roll about in pain. He hates this feeling. He hates, hates, hates it so much. He needs to do something. He needs to try.]

Gokudera, answer me!

[ despite yamamoto's pleas to be answered, there's nothing from the other end. the response feed doesn't click back on, there isn't a dishevelled but angry looking young man on the screen telling him to settle down and stop yelling, he's fine. for now, for both of them, all there is is blackness. ]

[He shakes his device again, as if somehow that would shake the answer from it, but nothing. There's nothing. He can't...he doesn't...

Yamamoto stares at his device for minutes, willing a response to come from it and never notices the tears that slowly start to roll.]

[ he'd give a rare apology if he could. if he was here, if there was any response on the device. for now, the only thing either can do is search out the location and wait. ]

[by the time he turns the feed on, there's barely a sign anymore that he was at all perturbed by what he just saw. His scowl is a little deeper than usual and there's a fierce light in his eyes that he only gets when he's truly, actually angry.

Meaning it's almost indistinguishable from his expression any other day, to anyone who doesn't know what to look for.]

Gokudera Hayato. You're not weaker than a chunk of circuits. [and admittedly, while he hadn't set his device on fire he had crushed it more badly than that before. He believes.] Respond.
